I have talked this problem through with Sony & am able to connect to my lynksys system but after I am connected and try to connect w/a site such as Google, my Sony NZ90 freezes up. Any suggestions? Thanks.

1. make sure your linksys has the latest firmware
2. turn power savings off on the lan card
3. what browser are you using?

I have no problems on a linksys AP and and Orinoco AP

Search the threads in the NX forum as well. There are some detailed instructions posted for dealing with setup for the card and routers...

Thanks for the replys.I have turned the power savings off and I will contact Linksys on their latest firmware. As for the connection I spent over an hour with Sony tech support on connecting.tHE CLIE shows a connection but when a web site is entered ,network timeout shows up on the screen.

You have some setting wrong. Post your setting from your NZ here, and we can help.

Thanks for your offer to help. I just finished attempting the help from Lynksys which had me go to advanced setup under wireless LAN setup and add numbers to my IP address, subnetMask and Gateway Address as well as my Primary DNS. Nothing changed-still the same results of the Clie saying it's connected but when I type in www.google it says "error-network time out" and then I cancel. My settings are: under preferences it is Service: Wireless Lan. I don't change anything under profile name, I press OK and then connect. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Tim

What kind of internet connection do you have? Who is your ISP? These can make all the difference as to whether it works or not. Setting up the clie and router are only part of the equation. There maybe other things in your desktop PC that needs to be done besides.

Cox cable is my internet provider and my router is lynksys. Thanks for any help you can provide. Tim

tim, you need to post your tcp/ip settings... it's not your wireless unit per se, but your settings...

is your linksys a router or ap?

let's start at the beginning... i suspect your router settings are wrong, or you have the wireless ap set wrong, or your tcp/ip settings are wrong...

start at the beginning: describe your system from your cable modem or dsl modem forward... we will get your problem solved... but i suspect you are looking too far downstream from the real problem..

Thanks. Here's my answers: my son sys we use a router for the lynksys system. My IP address is 192.168.1.104. Subnet Mask is: 255.255.255.0. The TCP/IP addresses are set automatically by my computer.

Tim,

Did you set your router first to DHCP LAN and WAN?

Did you create a profile under network prefes?

Did you set auto settings under advanced?

Did you use infrastructure mode?

Did you leave powersaveon: unchecked?

Did you leave WEP Key disabled on clie and Linksys disabled until you get everything working?

SSID of "any" without the quotes?

Don't worry about MAC addresses either until you get things working.

Let me know before we have to get into static settings. I had to set everything manually with my two clies and Lynksys WAP11 and 4-port Ethernet router, in order for everything to work reliably.

In the hot sync app, did you select wireless and modem, no phone number needed?

Can you connect any other wireless PCs to your wireless system. This is what I did to get my NZ to work. I removed WEP on the rouiter, then I left both settings on the Clie at Auto and undid the power save. Bam it connected. Then I added 128 WEP to the router using 26 letters and numbers. Like City, numbers, State, numbers. Then I keyed that into the Clie's settings. I am computting happily now... and I hope the same for you... do not give up.

Thanks for your help. Cox internet automatically sets the DHCP LAN. I didn't create a file under profile preferences. I did set auto settings under advanced. I used the infrastructure mode. I've tried leaving poser save off and on with the same effects. I left the web key disabled, Lynksys says there was no reason to have it on as well as Sony. For my SSID I put lynksys. to answer the question about connecting any other wireless PC's to my system, I currently don't have any other ones to try. I never had WEP on the router. I haven't given up yet, and I sure appreciate everyone's advice and hope you'll continue until I have success.

Okay, in order for our Linksys units to work and reliably with two NX Clies, everything had to be set statically and manually!!! Auto settings in the Clie would not work. I had to set my WAN, which is servered by Comcast to static and add the missing info found from WAN status. In the Clie I had to set the Gateway the same as the routers IP address. I also had to set the DNS to Comcast's DNS's and then everything worked great!
