From CliePlanet: "If you are waiting for JackSprat to be released for your OS5 device here's a sobering email from Brayder Tech Support- "Subject: Re: Brayder Tech Support Query: Sony has made it impossible for us to support their OS 5 devices with JackSprat. Sorry." Thanks to Kenny"

This is not the best of news, at least the US NX's come with around 4 megs of free flash. I wonder what Sony did to the OS5 rom to make it JackSprat incompatible?

I bet it's not what they did, but what they're not telling Brayder so they can make it work.

I agree, Sony has been keeping everything proprietary. I am starting to get very tired of it!

Message icon shows a sad face because it was the closest I could come to a really angry face. I am also tired of Sony's actions. Being proprietory didn't work for Apple in the 80' and it is going to backfire for SONY soon if they don't start listening to their previously dedicated consumers.
Maybe we ought to tell how this group feels about.

I'm ready.

"Sony owns a stake in Palm and has indicated that it would like to own it!"

I am sure they would like to own a lot of companies :).

Guess the only choice will be to put up with it or go back to not using a PDA if it bothers ya that much.

I wonder if this means Sony has locked the flash blocks with the OS in them and won't give out the key. If that's the case, there won't be any unofficial OS updates either.

Hope that Palm's Designer and Engineer will catch up with Sony as palm will not like Sony-stand alone proprietary.

I sincerely doubt there will be any official updates either.

Nothing like a $500 OS upgrade.

Do you think Sony got tons of units returned with swacked ROMs because of JackSprat and maybe decided to just make it more difficult not necessarily impossible... JackFlash has me very happy with 4 extra megs... I feel for the English units in the UK...

Wow so good support for your contry from Sony. Over here, if you return with ROMs spoil by Jacksprat, you had actually void the warranty.

All -

Chances are Sony locked it's ROM applications in such a way that JackSprat couldn't be used because of the number of 'warranty' replacements that were requested on previous devices because people deleted things from FLASHROM that rendered the device inoperable.

I haven't seen anything that states that JACKSPRAT will be available for the Palm T|T either...so maybe it is truly an OS5 issue and not a Sony issue?

I'm just happy that JackFlash works...as it does allow for 3.5mb more storage space on the NZ90.

Those folks with the Palm T|T have less than 35k free in their FLASH ROM space, and hence, are left with no options for using their FLASH RAM at all.

Everyone should keep in mind, this has nothing to do with proprietary issues...Brayder technologies (thankfully!) are working around the way the device is *meant* to work to provide additional funcitonality...
