maybe i'm not understanding something. But how much memory should the highest resolution on the nz90 take? everytime i take a picture on the highest resolution, it's only taking up around 400kb to 500kb. it this right? does anyone understand the relationship or ratio between megapixel and kilobytes? is there a higher setting on the nz90 that i'm not aware of?

Ahhh see the pixel resolution of the file is approx 2 megapixels or 1600x1200 ppi. Depending on the jpg compression, the file will take between 300-500K of space.

-also each photo setting has 3 sub settings, ...for every size photo you take, you can set the compression at 3 quality levels. Thus, the highest quality setting would make for the largest file size, the lowest quality the lowest file size. At the highest setting my photos are around 700-850k in size.

At 400 to 500k it sounds like the camera was set too the "standard" quality setting and not "fine" (the highest quality setting). A picture taken at 1600x1200 resolution and standard quality on my NZ90 is generally around 400K. A picture with the same resolution but with the quality setting set too fine is usually around 760k.
