Well we know that movieplayer and audioplayer use dsp for longer battery life.
What about others?

FullMoviePlayer?
Media Launcher?

I am not aware of any apart from these...

Do FullMoviePlayer/Media Launcher go into that list?As a matter of fact, they do. Both of these apps use codecs that are written to run using the DSP. Media Launcher was written by Sony, and FMP was written by Cliepet, but they both use the same codecs to play media files on a device. Neither of them are actually decoders, like Kinoma, for example, because they only call up the codecs already installed on the device, and so cannot run on devices that do not already have the codecs installed. Kinoma, I believe, has the codecs in the package with it, and it can run on any OS 5 Palm, but ML and FMP may only run on the Clies in the VZ, NX, NZ, TH, and UX series, although the functionality varies, depending on what codecs are supported. For example, the most capable of these Clies is the VZ-90, which can play MQV and MP4 movies out of the box using its built-in media launcher or using FMP. Likewise, the UX and TH PDAs have the same processor and DSP as the VZ-90, and with its MP4 codecs installed, can also play MP4 movies. The NX and NZ, to my knowledge, have a regular ARM processor and can play MQV files, but none of the other formats.

As for audio, Audioplayer uses the DSP for MP3 and Atrac decoding, but other programs, like Pocket Tunes, do not use the DSP, though they can do background play, which some may mistake for using the DSP. On the DSP devices, using Audioplayer puts almost no hit on other running programs, but if Pocket Tunes is run in the background, it will slow the performance of other programs.

Do not mistake the speed scaling processor for the DSP, as the DSP is only used for media applications. The speed scaling processor is used, to my knowledge, by the installed apps when needed, and by other apps to a degree that is somewhat unknown.

Hey, that is a great answer, thank you.
So my final question is: What would you recommend to use on Th55: Fmp or Media Launcher? (Considering I am going the ic2 route offcourse). I heard Media Launcher looks ugly on TH55 since it is designed for horizontal and not vertical hires+...

Absolutely, positively use FMP. The Media Launcher is nearly unusable, not to mention in Japanese. The orientation is difficult to work with, and if you hit an option in one of the menus, it will lock your clie in Audioplayer. FMP allows you to do Portrait, Landscape, and use many different zoom settings and ratios. It also alows volume control and standard VCR type controls.

So as far as I understand for us TH55 users the IC2 option is preferable over IC1.5. Is that correct? Sorry for asking so many questions :)

IC 1.5 and IC 2 can do the same things, if you have ICPrefs to mess with the registries. I use IC 2 to convert MP4 files, but if you want to make MQV files, then IC 1.x is required. Also, you have to have MP4 files to do 320x480 resolution. There is a long discussion on this which stems from the VZ-90 applications thread.
