Strange. My wife's PC running XP does not ask for Mass Storage device. And I don't install CLIE stuff in there (she is not into PDA).

I also test it to my brother laptop running XP. It's the same. I can connect my CLIE to it and it treats my CLIE as a MS card reader, no problem.

Here is what I usually do:
1. Put the Clie on the cradle.
2. Stick the HotSync USB adapter to PC.
3. Tap MSImport on the CLIE.

Then, XP pops a Window that says:
Main (E: )
"This disk or device contains more than one type of content
What do you want Windows to do?"
Then I select:
"Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer"
Click OK, and viola my MS folders show up in Windows Explorer.

That is one advantage of XP over say Win 98. On my own PC running Win 98, however, I do need to install MS Export which automatically loads MS SCSI Driver to PC.

Since you're using XP, it should already contain "Sony MG Memory Stick CLIE" driver in it. You can check it after doing all of the three steps above by going to Device Manager (click on Start, left click on My Computer, click on Properties, click on Hardware tab, click on Device Manager), scroll down to USB controller, click on the "+".

wel i tryed that...

i place the clié in the cradle....

went to msimport on the clié
tapt it...

he says connection to pc...
and then windows xp says "new hardware found"....

(sony peg mass storage)

and then the clié says "check connection with host"....

but xp wont find any drivers

but it wont give the drive like u mentioned....

do u got the drivers?
maybe it would work....

MSimport need another driver Sony PEG Mass Storage. It's builted in on WinXP. Win 98/Me/2000 doesn't have the driver on it.

hrm.............. I installed my Clie on my XP-Home OS .... no issues... works flawlessly. If it asked for drivers.... it did so at install time.. and probably found 'em on the Install CD *shrug*. Haven't had any issues whatsoever.

We were talking about a case with a CF card and the CD drivers

I know what you're talking about. The drivers are on the CD and are not included with Windows XP. I have installed a copy of Palm Desktop for Clie 4.1 downloaded from Sony but the MSExport drivers are not included. To use MSImport you need the program and the drivers from MSExport.
Anyone know where those can be downloaded?

I had this exact same problem. From the advice given here, I simply reloaded MSExport from my CD and, the next time I started MSImport, the drivers were in place and working properly on XP.

Thanks!

Search c:\windows\sonyPDAdriver ... I suppose this directory is created by MSExport installer ... verify sonyCLUS.inf is present.

Use this directory to install PEG mass storage ... all right for me (Windows XP Pro)
