Hey,

I finally decided to buy the TH55 of ebay, in refurb from sony state. How many scratches/dead pixels can I really expect from this?

Thanks

If they used a screen protector, then there should be few scratches. I would hope there would be no dead pixels. I have none.

I don't use a screen cover and I still have no scratches (and I use my 55 all the time). I have always had 1 dead pixel on my screen, but it never bothered me.

You will enjoy yourself, the '55 is great.

Thank for the responses.
I have another q. My Sony laptop would not allow me to update the firmware to accept mspro (i bought the laptop before mspro was known). So can I just get the 1gb sandisk mspro, put it into th55 and then wifi the mp3's from my laptop (since I have no usb2 either lol)?

RMCF,

If you bought the typical refurb units I've seen on eBay, you should get a "good as new" unit. You will not be able to tell that it's not brand spankin' new! These refurbs are usually units returned for a variety of reasons, but they are put through more rigorous testing (and fixing) before being turned out for resale. Units with scratches, etc. generally do not pass the Quality Control that these units go through.

As to your second question, I'd say you certainly can do as you suggested, especially with this app:

SmbMate (http://www.slunecnice.cz/product/SmbMate/download.html)

This is the freebe version of wifile (bought by HandsHigh). It works great, once you figure out the configuration. Search "smbmate" here at 1src, as I recall threads that covered the configuration challenges. Good luck! ;)

Do you have a USB 1.1, because that will work. The other option is a program like WiFile, because the TH-55 does not have a program to make it just show up as a drive on a wireless network.

SrcguySame here! I've had my TH55 about 6 months with heavy use and no screen protector, and when I polish the display up with one of those eyeglasses special cloths, it looks like the day I bought it. I have never and never will use screen protectors. I'd rather buy a new unit every couple of years than fool with those blasted things!

Yeah I have USB 1.1 (I think so, my laptop is 3 years old). I will have a go at SMBmate/wifile :) I wonder if there are any settings I need to change on my laptop wifi to get it working, I hope not.
Thanks again for all the replies, hopefully soon I will be another TH55 user. ;) :D

I always recommend a screen protector. I have had one on for a few months, and it definitely gives peace of mind, and I dont notice it now, though the install was messy, even though I did everything everyone said to do.
