dead pixels and BB

Anyone know Best Buys stance on replacement for dead pixels? My NR looks like a star field.

As long as it doesn't look damaged I think they'll try to repair it, not replace it.

no thats not what they will do.

They will replace your unit because it is a defect of the manufactor and not you.

I would recommend taking it back, and getting a new one. They will replace yours as long as you show them where they are, and usually they will replace any handheld even if it has one dead pixel.

any idea what causes dead pixels? i had three last week on my NR but now they're gone (thank god). i'm pretty sure they were 'dead' pixels in case you're wondering:)

Don't know what causes dead pixels but I had about a 100 some were solid blue some red sum twinkled it really looked like a star field.

not to sound too hopeful, but i'm having the same "starfield" thing happen on mine.

I didn't purchase the service argreement or anything like that. But I can still take it back to BB, show them the dead pixels and they will give me a new one? *scratches head*

Probably not....you will have to go through Sony and their warranty unless its within best buys 30 day return policy.

probably, like i mentioned before i had a few, but one day they just upped and went. i have new ones though... nope, they're gone:)

from my understanding, "starfield" things can go away sometimes, and actual dead pixels (just black) will not.

here's a thought... what would happen if i were to take my nr to best buy and show them the dead pixel problem? i'm out of coverage buy there policy and by sony's... but its not a "wear and tear" type problem its a manufactuer defect correct? so if i decided to send it in for repair via best buy or sony would i be charged for the repair/replacement?

If your warranty has expired, I doubt that you'll be able to return it, no matter what kind of defect it is. And I think it is more wear-and-tear than manufacturer defect. check your private messages.

If the amount of dead pixels on the NR account for 10% of the screen, then they'll exchange it. They apply the same tests of figuring out the area of the screen then the number of dead pixels that is used on LCD screens (for computers). It's best to find another reason or problem to exchange it under then trying the "dead pixel" routine. Most places like BB, CC and CompUSA have stipulations in their warranties for dead pixels on LCD type displays. If it's a serious problem, as mentioned, you will have to send it in to Sony.

hrmm... so suppose i send it to sony (god forbid) im i gonna end up paying some absurd amount of money to get it fixed. or is it something that they will fix/replace because it is a defect? sorry to be so annoying, just want to figure out what im gonna do. thanks
