Has anybody used a modem with the T5? Because of where I travel outside the US, I would like the capability to get my e-mail via local access numbers of my ISP. I've only found one Bluetooth modem that might work, and there's the possibility of an IR modem, I think.

Any experience out there?

Thanks,
Leo

I never heard of a serial cable for the T5 nor the Treo 650. Usually you just nead a null modem adapter and a gender changer to hook up the serial cable to the modem cable.

Your option now is just do Bluetooth. You can buy those (expensive) bluetooth modems and they would work. another option is through you mobile phone. You can actually use the mobile phone's internal modem to dial up to an ISP. But the fastest one probably is via GPRS.

Btw, if only Pretec released a driver for their 56K SD modem. :)

Yes, that would be a nice solution. You see, the problem is that dial-up through cellular phone is still a bit pricey in many places in Europe. So, a SD dial-up modem with RJ-45 connector would be the best way to go, price-wise.

And...
With for instance a modern Sony Ericsson, you will be able to either communicate with the phone via infrared, or via bluetooth - or both.

And then use its internal modem, or its GPRS-connection.

Using GPRS or Modem _is_not_ expencive in most countries in Europe.

So it looks like the Bluetooth modem is the only logical thing. I have a Bluetooth phone, but it depends so much on the country that I am in. Some countries I can put a local SIM card in it, but it will not work for data links. In others the local SIM is not a possibility. But, I have an ISP with local numbers in 160 countries, so that always works. If this was Europe, it wouldn't be an issue, but it's some places in southeast Asia and Africa that's the problem.
