So the SJ20 is only $150 or so. What are the disadvantages? Will it work with Word and Entourage? I don't need any of the photo stuff, so color and bigtime speed not important. I just want to edit documents and check e-mail.

Any reason not to get it?

I bought a SJ20 last month, even though I knew the 22 model was coming out. I don't need colour and I saw the prices on the sj20 drop to the point where I couldn't not do it.

For Word and Excel I use Docs to Go. The Clie only comes with the PC version, but you can upgrade to the Mac at the Dataviz site. It's well worth it!

For Entourage, you will need to get a conduit. One is available from the microsoft site. I haven't used it as I use OSX Mail.

I found that mail can use up a fair bit of the memory, so I'm going to costco to get a 128MB memory stick for 69.00 (canadian). I'm not certain mail can be stored on the stick, but all my eBooks and word docs can so what the heck.

Also, many will tell you that Missing Sync is essential. I decided to hold off and haven't found that I needed it yet. That being said, I don't owned a memory stick yet. Still, my advice is to to hold off on that until you have the Clie a while and make your decision then.

Wow, really, great. Thanks. So what was your final cost on all of the extra software? And did you buy a keyboard? I need to get on that really works, as I plan to do serious writing onthis thing. What was your final costs for all of the extras?
Finally, stupdi question: how do you download email? does the thing have a modem you can just plug into a telephone line?

To get email you need to connect to a modem, either a mobile phone (via bluetooth adapter MemStick), or via a workstation again via bluetooth or via the cradle and PPP.

How easy and expensive are either of those to get for the SJ20? Do they make it not worth it? E-mail is essential for me.

You don't want to count on email on a Palm - it is usually supplimentary. You would need a bluetooth phone as well as a bluetooth MS about $100 http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4506&highlight=bluetooth+memory+stick

How are you typing your posts?

Typing on an ibook, my main computer. But I was hoping that a PDA would be able to be substitute e-mailer, so that when I was on the move i could use it to get e-mail easily. I was hoping via a normal phone connection, as opposed to a wireless connection through my mobile, which i think involves expensive hardware and airtime, yes?
