This shouldn't even be an announcement, but as a matter of good business ethics. I mean as much as these devices cost, should we as a paying audience expect any less?

This is very good!
EB40 Batterys are very expensive in Germany. The BP500 costs just around 30 Euros

So Brando would have it again?

Everyone else would have it... at a much lower price compared to now. :)

In any case, I feel bad for the people who paid premium for a new or even used EB40 on eBay a week ago... I believe it was like 200-300 USD when the suggested retail price is more like 119...

Yea I paid 191. Grr. Well I learned my lesson. In a way. I paid what I expected to pay because I was gonna get a $120 WiFi Stick and a $120 EB40. I payed $45 for WiFi and $191 for EB40. So about $240 in total. =D

I hope this also mean that they will produce an upgraded version of the UX series in Japan. Maybe when Palm Cobalt is fully tested. I am just wondering why Sony would still produce the batteries after they discontinued the Clie line. Is it because of excess battery components on their stock?

If you ask me, they should produce a uprated battery, not the 1200mh on the NZ-90.
How about an 2000mh :D ?

Perhaps they are doing this because they have a lot of really peaved customers about shorting parts and skyrocketing support costs. They know that UX buyers are Digicam buyers, Plasma buyers, ...

I personally think that unless they are finishing out their last palm product that is similar to a UX-50 thet this is just a media relations announcement in an attempt to lower aftermarket prices. Perhaps they know of a few distributors that are hoarding them for auction on e-bay.

But hey - anything that lowers the price is good news.

If someone can talk with a Sony rep at a Sony store, please ask them if they will have it in stock because I will hate to have to ship one from Japan!

And if Sony would be so nice to add USB charging on the EB40.

EB40 is over. It says on Sony Japan website. It's impossible for them to produce the EB40 after they stop producing UX50. They just concern how to make more profit on new product.

Amen to that! I've held out on getting a EB40, but now that I'm using this Winhand program, a EB40 is a must!

IT's cheap and useful, but~~~~~~ugly. The reason why people buy Clie is not only for the performance also the good looking. And it's not easy to use on hand. Remember it's handheld not deskheld.

Never judge a book by its cover or a forum by its first post. ;) I'm not saying to make one yourself. You could buy a USB extender and a USB charging case and that's it. You have a mobile charger. It's not ugly. Actually, it keeps you from lugging around something thats gonna add a lot to your device.

Look what the EB40 is really made of...

The EB40 is actually two UX batteries put together. They could have made a slimmer battery with a TH55 battery in it, but they decided to make the EB40 massive and a piece of crap.

You could get this setup...

= 2500mAh

2500mAh - 1600mAh (Eb40) = 900mAh of more power.

Think about the science of it, not the looks.

BTW JAmerican, have you tried out that method yet with your new UX50? Working great? I wonder if I should look into getting a USB charger cradle... just that it's always annoying to ship things here to Canada when I get hit with broker fees... :p

I haven't been able to get to it but it has worked for others. I tried to use the USB charging cradle and it didn't charge with my USB cables. It just flickered. I'm gonna figure out why this is happening and let you guys know what results.

EDIT: It charges perfectly now. Probably didn't clamp it to the leather case right. :o

EDIT 2: The USB Leather charger is wierd. It charges the battery but if you use the device while its charging, the power led turns green. I'm gonna speak to Brando about this.
