Anyone know where (other than eBay) I can still buy a brand new, unopened ux50? I need international shipping. Expansys has sold out! Is the ux40 a good substitute? By the way, is the ux40's shell colour about the same as a tungsten t? Thanks.

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: the most useful thing about ux50 is the wifi capabilities imo. At least this is the feature i find i get the most out of on a day to day basis. I have a bluetooth enabled phone and a cell phone data plan but (at least here in canada) the data transmission rates are so slow that a GPRS connection is only good enough to download email headers, etc.

Perhaps you are wary of shopping on ebay but i have been watching ux50 prices all season, since i wanted to replace my girlfriends stolen nx70. There is a glut of UX50s out there and a reasonable final price seems to be about 300 usd. Thats half off the original price.

As for other locations I still see a few UX50s hanging around in local Sony stores here in canada and my university book store still sold them as of november. Asking retail price in canada is $1000 cdn.

They are plenty of places to buy. For example I just did a bizrate search

http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/search/search__cat_id--435,prod_id--11187181,sfsk--5.html

and got several hits... asking price seems about $400 usd...

It was the St George campus store. This information is dated as of about a month now, however.

Try giving them a call at (416) 978-7947 to see if they still carry it.

couldnt find anything on their webpage, but it is www.uoftbookstore.com follow links to computer shop.

Hi, I do have some brand new UX50 for sell,
but they are Japanese unit. So, the OS is in Japanese.

There are several software that i can recommend u that will help you to navi in the Japanese OS easier. I am not sure if anyone can flash the unit to Engish ROM.

If you know some Japanese/Chinese/Korean, then it is much simplier for you, because you can guess what the Japanese mean.

However, it is much cheaper then Sony Canada for sure.

If you are interested, E-mail me, so I can tell you more.

*** NOTE, this is NOT refurbrished, but BRAND NEW, from Japan, MADE IN JAPAN. This unit has 1 year warranty if you use in Japan. That is the warranty is void if you use oversea. but this ensure that this is the best quality from Sony, unlike the refurbrished one, which only have 3 month warranty ***

NTHeudner, thanks for your info. Unfortunately, U of T bookstores do not have any Clies left. Which Sony store have you seen the ux50? The last I saw an ux50 was in the summer at Yorkdale. Thanks.

i'll start by saying that i love my clie ux/50 very, very much despite it's limitations, which really aren't that great in numbers when compared to most other handhelds. i think what you should do is get a refurbished one, they're in greater supply than the new ones. i've had the exact same problem as you, after looking in a number of places in my city (memphis), i was reluctant to find that the clie line had been discontinued. and that none of the stores would be recieving any new shipments. so i had to revert back to online. to save you a story, i would suggest you visit MPSuperstore.com and look at the packages they have to offer for the clies. i've had no problems out of mine, except for the average ones, such as not being able to configure the wireless caps. but eveything is fine now. refurbs come with a 90 day warranty instead of the full year, but it's worth it in my opinion, and sony is still very helpful helping ppl resolve issues they may have with the device , as long as you have proof that you purchased the device. well, that's my two cents. let me know if it was helpful. i love this forum, i didn't know so many ppl had the same problems i did. once again all is well with my clie, i've had it since October of 2004.

I'm also in Toronto, and just received my UX-50 through eBay. It came from the US, and made it through customs with no issues. 24 hours into it, its been a positive experience. You never know through eBay, but it's at least half the cost of anything you'd find through retail.

Just so you know I spotted a UX50 on sale at the Rideau Center (Otttawa) Sony Store. Price $899 CDN. IT was there as of this afternoon.

Hope that helps you.

Looks like I am not going to get my ux50 afterall. The fraud that sold me the ux gave me two incorrect tracking number and has disappeared when I tried to email him for the real number. He also cheated two other eBayers as well. My search of a new ux is back on.

Beware of ebay, a lot of fraud out there!

I got lucky with my almost new purchase of ux50.

I bought a brand new EB40 on EBAY without fraud because I looked at the stats of the sellers. I won't buy from anyone who has negative remarks. I only buy from 100% positive reply - sellers. I also make sure the range of replys is in the 1000s.

Before this scam, I purchased a BNIB nx73E from someone from UK, and it arrived without any incident. That was fantastic. Then I bought a nz90. The day the seller went to the post office, his car was robbed. Unfortunately, the nz90 was in the car. Seller then refunded my money. So everything was going quite well until this dishonest eBayer. I tried to make sure everything sounds legit before bidding. Oh well. Live and learn. It isn't just the money. I really wanted it.
