I have a NZ-90 and would like to know if I can install programs to the memory stick and run them from there rather than installing them to the internal RAM. I have MapSonic GPS and it requires loads of RAM to run properly but I'm not too happy at the prospect of clearing all my much needed programs off the handheld in order to use GPS everytime I need to use it.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Thanks

ZLauncher or PowerRun will allow you to move apps to the MS and run them when you want. They WILL be loaded into RAM when you run them, though.

Thanks for a swift reply... out of the two programs, which would you recommend, and I know I'm being cheeky, where would I be able to get it? All this technology is a bit new to me!

The cheapest way out is to just use the built in loader. Move your program to your memory stick in the /palm/launcher directory and it can load with the default loader. The downside to this is that programs there only show up in the default launcher when you have the memory stick category or all selected. The third-party launchers are all much more flexible, but cost a small amount. Another choice is to get the jack flash program and take advantage of the flash builtin to your device. I am not sure how much leftover flash there is in the nz90 but the jackflash demo would tell you that. On my nx70, I got about 4Mb more space by using the jackflash program and I haven't bothered with another loader program. I have a couple of larger programs that I rarely use in the /palm/launcher directory.

You have quite a few choices, and much of it comes down to what you like/need/want to spend. www.palmgear.com has a selection of loaders.

As dspguy said, there are many programs that can be run from the memory stick. However, sometimes just moving programs to the /palm/launcher directory can cause them to stop working. It's better to remove the program and re-install it directly to the memory stick. However, there are some programs that don't seem to be able to be run from the memory stick--that is, without some 3rd party application. Zlauncher, PowerRun, and MSMount all allow any program to reside on the memory stick. With ZLauncher and PowerRun, from what I understand, the program in use is copied to RAM while in use, and then deleted from RAM when you exit. MSMount "tricks" the Clie into thinking that the memory stick is internal memory, so programs can run directly from the memory stick. I have heard that it can be a little unstable, though, causing occasional resets.

Does anyone know if there are any other programs that can allow you to run programs that reside on the memory stick?

Of the two applications, PowerRun and ZLauncher, ZLauncher gets my vote because it's a full-featured launcher (search the forums for ZLauncher and you'll learn ALL about it and/or head to zztechs.com and view the screen shots). I think the latest version, v5.x, is about $20. If you can buy the 4.x version (was about $12) then doin't think twice about it - v4.x is just fine and is cheaper.
