I also posted in the Mac/linux forum but I thought maybe some savvy Mac users could be found here as well. I have an imac g5 running the latest Mac os X version, I have the latest version of itunes and Missing Sync. I have a sony Clie TH55 and I have downloaded the recommended programs from audible. When I open itunes and audible on my Clie I see the clie in the source window of itunes. On the handheld I see that I'm connected but it just says 'checking content of device' continuously. When I try to drag a book onto the itunes window to transfer to the device it doesn't work. And even though I appear to be connected, I cannot 'see' the book already loaded on my Clie in the Itunes window. Does anyone out there have any idea what I may be doing wrong? I've emailed audible but haven't recieved a reply. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you want to put the book on a card or the device?
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I deleted the Audble Audio folder with Clie Files and it fixed the problem. No idea why.
Another solution could be to just delete everything related to Audible and install it again. Not very elegant but...

Thank you Tristan40! Deleting the audible folder worked like a charm! Apparently Itunes doesn't like the older audible folder. When I deleted it aq new one was created. Thanks again.

I had the same problem with uploading books from my mac to my card. Audible was no help.
After long trial and error i found that the problem is that when an upload is not completed for whatever reason an incomplete file is created in the AudibleAudio folder which in my case is on my memorystick. When you connect the Clie to your computer through Audible and Itunes, the device hangs when the check routine hits the incomplete file.
Use a utility like File Manager or Filez to delete the partial file. Its name will begin with Bk_ and it will have a size of 0 k or perhaps larger, depending on what proportion of the upload was completed before it stopped.
If the check routine still hangs, you might try deleting the .ds_store file in the root directory of the card.
To make uploads work more consistently, try disabling Hotsync in Hotsync Manager and minimizing the number of background processes running.
I did a lot of this fiddling and now can upload books reasonably consistently. Hope this helps.

Thanks Lenroth! That explains why deleting the entire folder works.

Not sure if this will translate to the MAC but it eliminated problems I had with my PC laptop.
Audible Upload
Instead of using the buggy communication of the audible program for palm, use the super reliable MSimport.
cradle your clie, and tell it to connect to msimport.
then in the audible manager on the pc, choose card reader, and select the appropriate drive letter, you may now transfer files, as large or small as you want, without crashing.
