Hi again,

Is anyone using an antivirus program with their Clie's? Are there any good free ones?

I have never used one. I guess PDA's can get viruses and such, but I'm not sure. I don't think my TJ-37 has ever had, or has one. I always run my PC anti-virus on all my downloads, but it just checks for PC viruses that might be in the conduits and desktop companion apps that come with some PDA software.

I downloaded a virus checker called PC-cillan 2.0 for wireless. It is freeware. I loaded it on the TJ37 and it would not start - it kept doing a warm reset everytime I tried to run the program. Anyone else try this program? It's available at this link:

I'd like a virus scanner that can scan WINDOWS SHARES for windows based viruses...possibly using SMB...

I thought these types of apps would be kind of pointless...

well, one of my jobs is working as a restech which means going to students room to fix problems "with our network" 60% of the time it's a virus on the student computer...so it'd be nice to be able to just scan with the clie...and not have to carry the laptop (which I just got for this purpose) around....plus the laptop just isn't as suave and beautiful as my TJ37

I can see where you're coming from there BigBradWolf. My friend's aren't as computer literate as I (and in this case, we) am (are), so I'm constantly doing things for them on their computers, and virus scanning is quite common for me. It'd be awesome for my TJ37 to be able to scan the computer and what not, but it's probably never going to happen. The internal architecture of the Clie is completely different from PCs, as everyone should know by now, and even SMB would not be able to help out in any way. Even a PPC would be very hard to program for as its internal structure is different from PCs as well.

I think that a Palm simply does not have the power to handle the enormous Virus databases that a windows-based scanner needs today. In addition, altough it would be practically possible to check files, you need sector-access to the disk to find all virii and to check the boot sector. However, SMB only provides access on a file level, and so no chance here...
