I've just received my activation code for JackFlash 3b... And though I've used the previous JackFlash in my n750c - I was so disappointed when I tried it on my NX...
Disappointed... But not at the software, but at Sony... I only have 551K of FlashRAM available.
What could I do with that?

or could it be a bug with JackFlash?
should I email there support, and tell them about a Japanese device?

I believe the Japanese language version clie uses more space than the USA version does, therefore less space is available.

It's probably the Japanese language itself needs a lot more room in ROM. English language has 26 alphabets + numbers + symbols while Japanese language probably has thousands of characters just for displaying the menus.

i have a jap version too but can't seems to make it to eng .
can anyone show me the proper steps to do it? thks
The Japanese version also has extra applications that are probably on the FlashROM such as the Japanese language input utility and the bilingual dictionary.
I feel sorry for the people that bought the software only to find out that there isn't enough free space, but thanks for sharing the information so the rest of us wont run into the same thing.

i dont have any qualms from buying the software. all i have to do is to justify to the software reseller (in my case, handango) that i am not satisfied with my purchase and/or it wasnt worth the investment, etc., and i get an immediate refund.

Thanks to Sony, what you want to do is currently not possible. I have heard rumors that some shops in Japan may be able to do it???

There is no way to change the Japanese version into English for many reasons. you can however try Laox on the 6th floor in Akihabara and they be able to help you out but you know Japan-not the most flexible people at the best of times.
The ROM is used by Japanese kanji for the OS

I beg to differ. I found the Japanese to be VERY helpful on many occasions. Even when they didn't know what was up, they made the effort of finding out. Which often didn't make a difference, since nothing could be done, but at least they didn't give me the typical North American "yea I'd like to help you, but can't you see? I'm eating a donut. So why don't you go screw off?" attitude.

That's correct, but it's only part of the truth: the Japanese ROM contains also a big word list, because Japanese users enter words using the Japanese characters (kana) first using their phonetical equivalent in Graffiti, and then the kana strings can be converted in the appropriate kanji (chinese characters) or kana+kanji combination. That's what you need the word list for, and it takes some ROM space in addition to the font themselves.
On previous devices, the Japanese <-> English dictionnary (this is different from the Japanese word list) was loaded in RAM from the bundled CDROM, and I don't have the Japanese NX70V to make sure if this is still the case or if the dictionnary has been included in ROM.

I didn't find any such shop in Japan yet (though I've not spent much time looking), and I'd say that given the low quantity of English devices users in Japan this might not be a common thing, but I'm definitely sure that some shops in Hong Kong will do this (for a fee).

Yes, they have a duty-free English export version available there, but if I remember correctly (forgot to note the price) it's more expensive than the Japanese version, so it might not be interesting except if you live in Japan and don't understand Japanese, and you can't buy it from another English-speaking country.

I do agree with you: they are generally very helpful, the only thing is that not many of the salesmen do speak English well enough to handle some uncommon requests/questions. But if you can communicate with them, they'll do their best to help!:p

Yeah, Patrick, agree with you there. :) *IF* you can get your point across, they'll do their utmost to help. So anybody who can't get any cooperation out of Japanese probably either does not speak Japanese, or couldn't find an English-speaking location. :)

Or they found a Know-it-all salesman.
