Cliepet, I'm very intrested in the VZ90, but, I'm concerned about the english usability. Do you have any screen shots that depict the extent of your translation efforts? Part 4 of your review does a great job summerizing the changes but a picture is priceless...

Sorry, I never found a screen capture program that works full screen. See some of Imame's posts to see the silk-screen area.

It looks a lot like an English UX using the default app launcher. Sometimes you see a few Japanese characters in places (eg: some of the Prefs) - many of which you can ignore. It would take a half-dozen screen shots to show the different mixes (some 90% English, some 50% English, some 0% English)

Like many things it depends on the programs you want to run. If you are mostly running 3rd party English apps you will be fine.
If you try to use the (non-translated) built in apps like MemoPad or Organizer, you will get lost.

NOTE: doesn't support most European languages directly (the default Japanese font has ASCII for English, but no accents)

Thanks for the reply mate, I don't plan on using the default clie organizer, but, rather a third party tool like zlauncher or agendus. Do you have any regrets with your purchase? Also, is there any way to get the screen rotation to do full screen portrait? I belive, I read it can only do 320*320 portrait.

I think the device is a great media player and if you compare it to an archos or Lyra, it makes those models look like gameboys. The palm os is just icing on the cake, I don't think its fair to compare it to other pda's like the TH55 or UX50. Both great devices, but, with limitiations. I really need to pick one of these up.

One last question, are all the buttons in english? E.g. Ok, Cancel, etc...

Not myself. The amazing screen, battery and working CF slot give it features unique to any other PDAs.
The common complaint is the price (it is expensive, but not out of the ballpark for the initial retail price of a NZ90 or UX50)

Not correct. Full screen portrait works great, as does full screen landscape.
This is built into the system software, so it works properly in either orientation, whether the silk screen area is up, or minimized or removed. The silk screen & status bar can go on the left side too.
So the possible screen orientations for the main area of the app are: 320x320 (landscape) or 320x320 (portrait), 450x320, 320x450, 480x320, 320x480

Wins hands down for playing movies (once they are in the proper format on MS or CF). Amazing screen, battery life beat out any competition, even similar large bricks.

Doesn't have the capacity of hard drive units, or features to record videos directly (eg: Archos)

> are all the buttons in english? E.g. Ok, Cancel, etc...
It depends on the app. For most of the system services (eg: Beam, Delete, Prefs), no problem.
For the non-translated apps (still in Japanese) you will get Japanese buttons.

I have one I am putting on Ebay next week. I also have the Sony VR100 Video Recorder to watch movies and TV on the VZ90.

Let me kn ow if you are interrested. We can both save a few bucks that way. I can save on Ebay fees and you can get a better deal on a brand new one with his English conversions already on it.

JAmerican has translated the Media Launcher, it works great on UX (do not activate visualization).
You can find his thread here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76362&page=4&pp=15) ;)

Nota:
It works on VZ too, in VZ visualization is available:

But on VZ there two issues, the dropbox where you can chooses where you take MP3 in the audio part is all white and whithout the MS icon (it is not blocking anyway):

And in the photo part, you can not chooses anything else than all media (but it does not block).
