I picked up my TG50, and I really, really like it. But, the screen seems to be off center and drives me nuts. It is still useable, but the crooked/off-center screen really drives me nutty. Would you take it back and exchange it if it had a problem like this? Do you think CC would except the crooked screen for a reason to do an exchange?

um, I'm pretty sure that most of these screens aren't perfectly centered. If yours isn't, then the others prolly won't be any different.

You can always open and recenter it...

i've noticed a lot of T series devices (T615c, T665c and now TG50) seems to have crooked screens. I noticed this on my old t615c, I noticed when I went to compusa to check out the t665 is seemed like it was leaning to the left.
Kinda annoying if you ask me. I think sony has worse quality control than palm. Too bad sony has all the cool devices though!
As for you, I would probably exchange it. That crooked screen would drive me nuts!

Why don't you compare the unit on display at CC? Then you can convince the staff that the screen is off-centered.

That is what I planned on doing when I get a chance. With my work schedule I work from 12PM to 9PM (PST), and that does not leave me much time in the mornings to try a lot of things out before I have to go to work. I usually save things for the weekend, but I love my TG50 (not in that way, mainly due to I/O problems ;-) and I want to get it fixed. I will most likely get it taken care of on payday (this upcoming Friday). Wish me luck.

If by CC you mean Circuit City, you shouldn't have to convince anyone of anything. I bought one of those $400 Panasonic wearable SD mini camcorders once. I told the salesman up front I wasn't sure I'd like it. He said no problem, buy it, try it, if you don't like it, bring it back. I didn't like it, I took it back in pristine condition and packaging. They asked if it was defective. I said it was in perfect working order, just not what I'd hoped it would be. They smiled, credited my MasterCard and that was that. Maybe my particular Circuit City is just better than others. Whatever the case, they sure are good about returns and honoring even mistaken sale prices. I would never hesitate to take back a defective $400 product.
I don't mind the TG50 screen size, I don't mind the wavy lines, but I would mind a crooked screen on top of those other characteristics!

CC actually touts the return policy in comercials...guys waiting in line making up excuses. You don't even need a receipt! They say they keep it all on computer! :)

I'm used to dealing with Best Buy, so I forgot that CC in some places is a bit more lenient and easier to work with. I will try to see what I can do with them. Thanks for the help!

Best Buys has a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy, and they've been pretty good with things after that. As long as you bring it back without a cracked screen or huge scratch on the side, they will take it back.

I went to my local Best Buy, and asked for their return policy. The sales manager told me that they have to charge 15% restocking fee if the merchandise is found not defective. Is this the case with all other Best Buys? How about Circuit City?
With all the keyboard scares, I want to be able to return it if I do not like the unit without costing me a arm and a leg.

You could always "find" an open in the battery wire

no by crooked, do you actually mean that the screen isn't aligned correctly? Or that there is more metal on the one side than the other?

Circuit City does not have a restocking fee, but always ask before you buy because I think stores can change their policies at any time. They did not charge me one for returning a perfectly fine but "not up to my standards" video recorder a few months ago.

The screen is the crooked part, and it isn't an offset mask. I've measured and the metal items "border" around the screen is fine, but the screen appears to tilted or crooked by .3MM all around. It is noticeable and aggravating. You can go ahead and call me particular but when I paid about $490 cash (including warranty) I don't want to see defects like this.

Really s_n_m ...should I just open and recenter it?
It happens to my new T665 also.....should I take the risk to open it? Or exchange to another new one?

You got it from Circuit City right?
From Circuit City:
We want to make sure you're completely satisfied with anything you buy from us. Try it out for 30 days. If something's not right or you've simply changed your mind, please return it within that time so we can either exchange it or give you your money back. Since computer technology changes so quickly, we can only offer a 14-day tryout on PCs and related merchandise. For a full refund of a Product, we'll need you to return the box and packaging too.

Well, I checked the demo unit at CC today and it looked like it had a similar crooked screen (very minor, but still there). It's okay, and I think I will live with the problem. I cannot thank everyone enough for all of the awesome advice and suggestions. I would take a picture, but I don't have a decent regular camera or a digital camera with decent resolution.
