Has anyone actually connected their T3 via their PC and bluetooth to the internet? WinXP/SP2 seems to have changed the screens mentioned in so much of the documentation here. I can hot sync via BT but not internet. Wondering... Van

I have. The bluetooth drivers that come with SP2 didn't allow me to setup a "network" device with the bluetooth adapter. There was some discussion about this in the wireless forum a couple of months (or maybe more) ago. I can't recall exactly how I got it to work, but it involved manually changing the driver that my bluetooth key used to the one from the manufacturer (instead of the generic Microsoft one). Only then did all the options (network, etc.) become available again.
Good luck,

My guide is still up to date.
Follow the link at the top to re-install your drivers and get rid of the MS WinXP SP2 Bluetooth drivers.
After that follow my guide exactly and you'll be good to go.

What do you mean by no services?
What Bluetooth adapter do you have?
Under "My Bluetooth palces" and "My Device" you should list 7 different profiles or services, one being the Network access.
If you don't have these then you do not have complete drivers.

Also, it might help to know what BT adapter you're using on the PC.

Belkin F8T001 v2; I used the software from the CD; then I downloaded the sw from the Belkin site, thinking it might be better... what is weird here is this... The install does not go according to plan in the provided paper work... after the install askes for the dongle to be connected and it discovers it and install all drivers, the wizzard never boots... If I click on My BT Places nothing happen... and if I navigate to the services window it is empty ... I know what sould be there from BT experiences with my desktop and another Belkin unit. But this install is on my Presiro laptop and I am stumped...

Other question. After much problems I finally installed my bluetooth adapter under XP2. Hotsync takes very long time to complete (at least 40 minutes). Anything I can do to speed it up?

Have you gone through the process of replacing the MS Bluetooth drivers for SP2? There is a link on my setup page at the top that shows you how to do this......
I think SP2 is your problem at this point......

Once I got my BT adapter working on my desktop, I followed Whizoo's setup notes and had no problems accessing the internet through my desktop and DSL connection.
My problem now, I had to do a system re-boot and the BT adapter did not reload. When I tried to force the BT stack server and BT tray to load (as I did previously to make it work), the stack server app was missing entirely. I've attempted an un-install and re-install, but no luck. One thing I've not tried yet... plugging in to a DIFFERENT usb port when it comes time to plug in the adapter during install. Originally, the USB device would show up in the Device manager, but now, it doesn't even show up so I can update drivers. Grrrrr.... :(
The part that frustrates me is that I know it CAN work, since it has. Actiontec (my BT adapter manufacturer) sent me a help e-mail basically saying "uninstall everything then reinstall everything". The adapter also works great on my old laptop, which is running Win98. Gotta love XP...
Oh... as to syncing via BT. I've done it a few times. It is slower, particularly on the first hotsync. If you have lots of files on your Palm that haven't been backed up, they all get transferred. I just did this yesterday on my laptop for the first time in a long time and it took forever. Out of curiosity, I'm gonna fire up my laptop and do another sync via BT, as nothing should have changed on my PDA since the last sync. I'll see how long it takes on the second run and let you know.
EDIT: The first sync I did yesterday via BT took 28 minutes. Today's took about 8 minutes. A second sync right after the 8 minute one took just over one minute. The general updates (Contacts, calendar, etc) go fast. It's the file backups that get you. If a lot of files have changed since your last sync, then everyone of them have to overwrite the last backup.

As Ren and Stimpy would sing... Happy happy joy joy!
I spent about twenty minutes with a tech in India last night and finally got my adapter recognized. Learning on this one... I unplugged the adapter before doing the uninstall. Apparently this must have something to do with it. I did an uninstall while leaving the adapter connected. Once I did the restart, I unplugged the adapter during the bios run before Windows started. After Windows completely loaded, I ran the install program then did another restart. Once Windows completely loaded again, I plugged in the adapter to a DIFFERENT usb port and everything recognized perfectly.
One note to Vansouza regarding...
In Network Connections the Personal Area Network BT Network Connecton has a red X....
Go under the properties of the BT Connection and on the Advanced tab, make sure you've chosen to allow your computer to use the connection to access LAN/Internet. Also, if you're following Whizoo's setup mentioned earlier, make sure you've designated your Internet connection as a shared one. (Thanks for a great setup explanation DeanDC10!)
One final note... in the process of reinstalling, XP reset my TCP/IP settings on the BT connection. I had to go in and reset them to the 192.168... mentioned in Whizoo's setup. Once I did that, I was back up and running. I even did a reboot to test and it reloaded just fine. All is well in my Bluetooth world once again

Anybody know how to set up BT communication between a Tungsten T3 & a Motorola v710? This phone doesn't seem to be covered in the latest phone driver file for BT.
I want to be able to send mp3's fm my T3 to my phone...
& to send ringtones to phone that I d/l'ed fm 'net - I don't have it set up & don't like using the Moto web browser or paying Get It Now prices.
TIA,

At this time, you can only transfer files on the 710 by using the transflash card. Verizon had Motorola effectively lock out the OBEX stuff in the software, which is what Bluetooth uses for file transfer. Rumors abound that a phone flash update will be changing this, but I doubt it. Verizon makes too much money on their "Get It Now" service.
As to connecting your T3 to your 710, search the forums. A number of us have successfully connected the two for internet use. There are two or three topics here on 1src that will explain how we were able to get the two connected. At this time, pretty much all you'll be able to do is internet connecting. There are no official drivers out there for the 710, so transfer of address book, SMS messaging, phone dialing from your T3 and the like is not available. For some reason, the folks at PalmOne only seem to want to develop GSM drivers and nothing for CDMA phones (like the 710). And, as I stated earlier, file transfer is out of the question on the 710 as it stands today.

Thanks for the reply.
Which palm browser are people using?
Interesting point, VZ _is_ selling transflash cards which just makes it a little more clumsy to achieve file transfer. Oh the web corps weave when they seek to make a buck!
I hope they allow file transfer in a future update.
All the best,

The latest I'm hearing is that the firmware upgrade for the 710 (which may be released to VZW stores after Christmas) disables the ability to transfer MP3s from the card to the phone... VZW wants you to pay for Get It Now in order to send ringtones to the phone. I've also heard that the firmware improves the camera performance in indoor situations and has some improvements in the earpiece volume. Lastly, it is still limiting the ability to transfer files via BT. Anyway, I'm drifting off topic here.
My latest issue with using my TT3 on my desktop DSL connex via BT is my not-so-friendly Norton Internet Security firewall. I'm having to shut down the firewall to establish my TT3 connection. I can then restart the firewall and I'm fine. When it comes time to renew my software, I'm going back to plain old Norton Anti-Virus (which I've never had problems with) and I'm gonna put ZoneAlarm back as my firewall. It worked so much better and was much less intrusive.
