I dunno what to do. I was all set on the NX60 until this TG50 came out. I currently have an NR70 (non-camera) and I love the big screen but now that I think about it I don't really benefit from the extended area on a daily basis. The keyboard is my primary method of input.

To top it all off, I have a $450 credit with Best Buy when I turn in my NR70 (it has a few dead pixels so it's not like I'm breaking it to trade in). I can pay $50 and get the NX60 (keep the flip screen, wireless slot i'm not to fond of) or get $50 back and get the TG50 (loose flip screen, gain bluetooth, loose hi-res+ screen).

AARGH!!! What to do?!:confused:

I'm not interested in the NX70 simply because I already have a camera with me all the time on my cell, so I don't need the Palm to have one as well since I'm more likely to leave my Palm behind than my cell.

Two things bothered me about the NR70 that prompted my switch. First, the NR is heavier. Not much (about an oz), but I think the NX series is still heavier than the NR. Add that to the greater length, and the NR/NX come up to be too bulky for my taste. Second, the clamshell is just annoying to me. I, too, use the keyboard all the time, and I prefer to flip the cover and have it all together. If a larger screen is more important than these two complaints, then don't buy a TG50, stick with the NX60.

I'm kinda used to the bulk of the NR, but I'm not sure I'd warm to the NX b/c of the wireless slot that I'd probably never use, esp. with wireless MSs coming soon. I still haven't seen just how bulky it is since I've only seen it locked down @ Best Buy. The clamshell is cool but it would be pretty convinient to just flip open the cover.

Sneezy do you have a TG now? What did you come from?

I have both. Just got the TG50 a couple of hours ago. This is a MUCH tougher choice than I thought it would be. I think it's because the TG is so attractive (IMO) :)

well, you're going to have to weigh the pros and cons of each. Pick the one that you think will benefit you the most. If you REALLY like the HiRes+ screen, then going to a small screen on the TG is going to be painful...however, if size is an issue, the TG is awesome.

I would consider the NX60 if it wasn't so large and had Bluetooth. It is those two things that made me decide on the TG50.

Or are you just thinking about the future? BT isn't that big a deal for me since I don't have anything else that has it, and I don't plan on changing phones anytime soon.

I use BT to HotSync only for now, which is awesome. I no longer have to sit at my PC to sync which frees me up. I will use it with a compatible cellphone when Sprint PCS releases their BT enabled phones, and through that connection I will be able to get online.

I came from an SJ30 to the TG50. I was using my backup PDA and SJ20 after I sold my SJ30. Not having color is torture.

I'm in the same dilemma...I have a T-615 now and will be upgrading soon. Price really isn't a concern (work is buying me the upgrade :) ).

The way I see it:

NX: larger screen, more protection when closed, "regular" graffiti, and keyboard. Plus camera if I get the NX70. Wireless CF slot (but I'll probably never use it).

TG-50: smaller physical dimensions (and lighter), bluetooth.

Although the advantages for the TG-50 are few, they are important ones for me...I carry my Clie in my pocket at all times, so physical size and weight are pretty important (is that a Clie in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? :P ) I haven't used a thumb keyboard yet, so I don't know how fast or how intuitive it would be for me. I'm comfortable with graffiti but I always haev to check to see if everything got entered correctly.

I'm gonna swing by CompUSA and Circuit City tonight to see if they have a demo TG-50 out. I'm leaning towards the TG-50 now (since I've never had the Hi Res+ screen, I won't miss it...but it would be nce to have) because of the size and the fact that I already have a bluetooth cell phone and dongle for my computer, so I should be all set up for that. But if the keyboard is a turn-off, it'll be the NX70 for me.

nobody locally has the TG50 here. in fact, Best Buy *just* got the NZ90. A week ago there was an NR device on open item for $150. I was seriously considering it but I decided to wait out for the TG50. Today I went in and played with the NX70v for awhile and I love it. It fits in my pocket fine, but I haven't tried it in a pair of jeans (I was wearing khakis with quite large pockets).

The thing is, everything complains about the "bad" thumboard on the TG50, yet all the reviews say it is the best thumboard on a Sony yet. I had absolutely no difficulty with the NX70's thumboard, picked it up and immeadiately was typing quite quickly-- faster than with Graffiti (and i've been a Palm user since Handspring was a baby). My question is: how is the TG50's thumboard compared to the NX70 and/or is it really that much of a problem not having anywhere to hold onto below the keyboard?

While I'm asking... the NR-series has a 200mhz CPU and OS5.0, correct? If so, I might have to find one on eBay and go with that... I don't want wireless (though the TG50's bluetooth would be nice) and the camera is pointless since I have a very nice Pentax (2mp). Recommendations?

The NR has no wireless slot, no Bluetooth, and has the Dragonball 66MHz processor and OS4.

I tried a demo TG50 today (in Hong Kong), and I was quite disappointed. The keys are too thin, hard to press, and there is too little space between the keys. The round-shaped keys on NX70 are actually easier to use.

is there any non-camera, non-CF slot NX version around? i really like the form-factor of the NR-serires but also am in love with OS5. maybe the perfect Clie isn't the T-series Hi-Res+ afterall but:

- clamshell design (NR-series)
- two memory stick slots (one for storage, one for bluetooth MS)
- 200mhz XScale
- OS5.2
- Under 7oz
- 10 hour battery life
- NX keyboard

Right now, that sounds quite attractive to me... but, of course, how could anyone pass up a decently priced T-series with VG?

Here is my idea for an ideal PDA;

* - TG Series form factor (with hard flip cover)
* - Hi-Res+ Screen (keyboard's nice, but little did I realize how much I'd miss Graffiti)
* - 32MB of RAM & 16MB ROM
* - 300MHz XScale Capable Processor
* - Palm OS 5.2
* - Built-in Bluetooth
* - 8.5 oz. weight or less
* - Battery rated with 30 minutes daily useage, backlight off for 15 days. With backlight on, 11 days and 30 minutes of use. With LCD off, MP3 playback rated at 5 to 6 hours.

TX, i like that idea... I think that same device in a thin clamshell device would be perfect, though-- having the *option* of the thumboard or VG would be great. The thing is, if I had a device that could last me three or four days on one charge (about two hours a day-- meaning 8 to 10 hour battery life) and have the NR-series profile, could be thicker or heavier if it meant a better battery life, with BlueTooth, i'd be willing to pay $800 because it would be replacing my $1,400 laptop. essentially, taking in a few tweaks since my first post, my *new* dream PDA would be:

- NR-series design, no more than .65" depth
- 200mhz XScale processor
- Palm OS 5.2
- Hi-Res+ screen in tablet mode, flip over to a keyboard similiar to the NX-series
- 7.5oz or less weight
- Battery (as above) that would last me three or four days with about 1.5 to 2.5 hours a day
- Built-in BlueTooth
- 32mb internal memory, 16mb Flash ROM

Well just to update every1, I got a TG50. Oddly enough, the NX60 was $449 and the NX70 was $499. I almost got the NX70 just because, but then decided to just swap for the NX60, but they were out of stock. So I went back to my original decision of the TG50. I also got to keep the $50....what they do with warranty exchanges is they mark up the price of the TG to $449 instead of $399, that way i still have the same amount of credit towards any device.

Another funny thing....1st they tried to tell me that they had to send it to get repaired instead of just having me replace it. Thankfully the tech was mistaken. Then he said something about most Clies can just be swapped instead of replaced, though I could tell he was BSing since he kept saying "most" but wouldn't specify which ones. Gotta luv Best Buy.....

Anyway, it's charging now. I really want to play with it. It's been charging for almost 2 hours!!! And it would've been nice for it to come with some headphones. I also wish it had the option for the remote control wand like previous MP3 Clies...o well.

i got the NX70 about a week ago. i was planning on waiting for the TG50 and then swapping for it, but after experiencing HR+ and realized the added "bulk" actually wasn't that much, I can't go back to standard Hi-Res... plus, I got it for $300, so I'm actually saving money.

I might be going against everyone else on the forum, but I think the NX-series thumboard is much nicer and easier to use than the TG50's. I didn't have any "hard button" issues, but it is easier to use the NX-series, in general...

Now, in terms of a HR+ T-series, that'd be the kicker... Especially if it had a true ARM processor and BlueTooth.

Well here's the 1-day update:

The keyboard WILL take some getting used to, coming from an NR/NX. Not only did the keys feel a little different to press, but it seems like some items have changed positions. Also, in some lighting it's hard to read the orange written on the aluminum.

I've been test driving the Clie Launcher (though I may end up eventually going back to YiShow) and though it seems pretty good, I still don't like how all the card apps show up under "Card" and can't be categorized. Also I'd like to be able to scroll by category as well, maybe by holding the Jog in + scrolling?

The important apps work and work well on the new Clie. Only thing I wish I had were my old Bejeweled high scores.:(

The bulk/weight in my pocket is noticibly smaller than with the NR. Sometimes it's like I even forget it's in my pocket. Very nice :)

I like my LG LX5250 as well, and I hope the first BT enabled Sprint phone is from LG. I'd hate to have to buy another car charger and case.

Another annoyance: on older Palms you could hold down the "back" button and scroll thru fields, then select the field/drop-down using a push of the Jog Dial. How do u do this on the TG? I don't have a screen protector yet and it's kinda annoying to have to pull out the stylus every time I want to tap something.
