I have Pocket DVD and tried converting a few movies. I had no problem with Pocket DVD converting DVD movies to .avi files. But when I try to transfer the files using Image Converter 1.5 to my MS PRO, it would say file not supported. Any ideas? Do I have to do another convertion step before I can view the movie on my clie?

So you're transferring the videos created by Pocket DVD, without converting them to the MQV format?

That won't work, as the built in player doesn't support .avi formats. IC needs to convert .avi's to the MQV format first, THEN copy to the proper directory.

The other option is to use the 3rd party player MMPlayer, at http://www.mmplayer.com and then just copy the file created by Pocket DVD to your memory stick, with no need of a second conversion process.

Which Clie do you have?

Thanks for the response Bionic Antboy. I am using a TH55.

After converting the DVD using Pocket DVD, I now have a .avi file. I tried using IC 1.5, after pressing the add button, IC 1.5 stated that "file is not supported". Am I missing a step?

I had read from a lot of threads that MM player is not compatible with the TH55.

I think it also depends on the codec you're using. IC can be picky.

Any idea what to do to resolve this issue? I saw someone in the TH55 threads with the same issue. From what I understood, what he/she did was convert the .avi file to mpeg file. But from what I read, IC 1.5 should have been able to handle the .avi file, shouldn't it be?

How do I convert an .avi file to mpeg file?

I'm using a UX50, with IC 1.5, so the process should be just about the same...

You shouldn't have to go from avi to mpeg, but if you do, take a look at TMPGEnc.

Before you do that though, you also might find an answer here...

It's a pretty comprehensive guide, and if I recall correctly, in the discussion, somebody mentions certain codecs presenting a problem.

Thanks again Bionic Antboy, I'll read through it and post back if I find the answer. I even tried uninstalling IC 1.5 then restart the computer then install it again with the same result.

I use PocketDVD regularly without having to do anything other than load the output avi file to IC 1.5 and it works everytime on my TH55 - so I'm guessing that you may need to try another codec within PocketDVD. When I purchased the program I downloaded both the Xvid MPEG-4 and DiVx 5.2.1 codecs from their web site. I know it works without having to play around with additional conversions or esoteric codecs and is why I bought the program. I had been using DVDX, then VirtualDub and finally IC with mixed results. Hope this helps.

ck I believe the problem is the audio codec that pocket dvd is using. This is why I have been waiting for them to release their new version that lets you choose not only the video codec but also the audio codec for uncompressed audio. Sony's IC will support an AVI with uncompressed audio for the audio codec... Unless you have a brand spankin new version of pocket dvd that finally is supporting this (pqdvd customer service told me a week ago they'd have it very soon) then I think this is probably the problem.

Thanks for responding sonicxracer. I read your thread in the TH55 forums and was wondering if you found the answer.

This makes me wonder though, how come spmilden is not having the same problem as ours. He said IC 1.5 handles the .avi file created by Pocket DVD without any trouble.

Question for spmilden please, are you using windows xp? sp2? What version of Pocket DVD are you using with IC 1.5?

They just released version 2.02 but it still doesn't support selecting the audio codec AND it may be just dumb luck that the last 6-8 DVD's that I've done haven't had compressed audio. I deleted VirtualDub off my computer when the combination of IC 1.5 and the new release of PocketDVD worked so I haven't been able to check the audio and don't know why it's working for me.

I just tried 2 more DVDs - Step into Liquid and Stuck on You and both of them worked fine. It might be helpful for whoever is having problems to try one of those DVDs which I know work and see what results they get.

I really appreciate your responses spmilden. I was converting SpiderMan 1 DVD. I don't know if you have tried that yet.

I have not installed SP2 windows update yet. Hmmmmmm. May be that is the problem. The reason I don't want to install SP2 update is, I just finished reformatting my computer from scratch and the reason I did that was when I installed SP2 windows update the last time it messed up my WiFi hotsync, thus whatever I do or any change in the configuration settings, I could not get my TH55 or UX50 to do a WiFi Adhoc hotsync. Reformatting my computer from scratch and installing all programs one by one did the trick since I was familiar with how to setup the WiFi hotsync via Adhoc mode without the Windows SP2 Update. I'll try and see if other DVD's will work. I need to visit the nearest library and borrow some dvd's.

If you can use something to make a backup image of your system before installing SP2 such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost, then should something goes wrong you can simple restore the image without having to go through all of the work you described. I learned the hard way and spent several days getting my computer back up to speed.

FYI I am using my WiFi with my TH55 with no problems post SP2.

I'll give Spiderman 1 a try and let you know. If will take a few days to get it from Netlix.
