Has anyone tried to hack the wl100 driver to remove the 'sony' lock on CF cards? I was playing around with prcedit and the wl100 driver and it shows some information, but the bulk is still binary. As WL100 & 110s are becoming few, far between, and greedily expensive, I like to work towards cracking a driver to allow more than the Sony's. Is there a better prc editor to view the driver with?

Its not that sony is blocking the use of other cards its that there are no drivers written for other cards. There is no such thing as a universal driver for wifi cards (ie. even on a ppc you can't use D-Link's driver on a linksys card). If you can't find a sony card then the Intel PRO/Wireless 2011b lan cf card (model wcf2011bmw) will work.

The Intel PRO 2011b is also a Socket WLAN card, but it won't work, but as the WL100 and Socket WLAN are similiar, I would think the driver's should be also. Does anyone have a program to completely hack the WL100 driver?

There are two versions of the socket card, one (the older version) which is based on the intel pro 2011b and the newer version, which isn't.

Is that to say that the Socket #8510-00186 (The PRO 2011b version) will work? I got a newer #8510-00212, my nx73v recognizes it when its installed in the unit, but says that no driver is installed.

I've not tried it myself personally, but it was reported in this forum that it worked. It looks like they used an Intel chipset in their early versions (same as the sony and intel ones) and later switched to another one. Good luck.

Does anyone have a program to completely hack the WL100 driver? The wl100 is nothing more than a rebranded intel. Thats why the sony drivers work on it. There is no such thing as hacking drivers to work on a completely different chipset. New drivers would have to be written. BTW, I have personally used the intel card and I can tell you it does work.

For which NX? The NX73/80 had them built in. The NX70 (maybe the NX60) had the drivers available via the support site.
