Is there a way to make the standard date book open up to the month view instead of the day view. I remember my old Visor datebook had that option.

If not, are there any good date books out there that I can sync with Outlook?

If you're used to the DateBook+ on your Visor, you really should look into DateBk5. DateBook+ is actually a modified version of DateBk3, the predecessor to DateBk5. It's the first app I bought after moving from a Visor to a Clie since I'm used to it and love its features.
