Less battery usage when doc is in RAM??

I was getting a lower battery life on my NR70V (I now use Handstory 90 per cent of my time with my Clie).

So I decided to move both the app (Handstory) and the book I was reading to RAM (I no longer had the red light flashing every 3 sec or so in the IR window - meaning it's not accessing it from the memory stick any more, and I think I am getting a longer battery life)

Is this basic knowledge that memory stickj usage results in lower battery life?
