I have tried everything possible to get this software to work properly on my computer and it just doesn't work !!

I am able to convert XVID movies with AC3 but almost all my DIVX/MP3 files crashes the application. I even tried to decompress the sound but keep the video in DIVX and it still crashes.

I have the latest codec installed on my computer and I am able to watch every single one of them. I have desinstalled and reinstalled everything (QT, IC 1.5) adn it still crashes. I do have Windows XP Pro SP2, may this is th e problem.

I really don't understand why Sony would release a software that has so many problems with so many people (by reading all the posts here).

So I went back to IC1.1 and everything is working flawlessly.

Am I missing something here ? Can anybody please help me out or should I just quit ?

Thanks in advance,

did you have any K-Light codecs install? remove this!
I have the same Prob. with the k-light codec. after killing the k-ligth codecs all runing fine.
later I re-install "only" the divx + xvid from k-light back - and my system (include quicktime) works with IC1.5 even IC2.0 fine! ...

I have K-lite, WinXP SP2 and IC1.5 and 2.0 . Both runs without problems.
Sometimes IC crashes - but this happens just 1 in 20-25 conversions.

Thanks for your response Schnitt and 222aaah,

I don't know about K-Lite codec but I know I installed some codecs to be able to watch .mkv movies. Is this the K-Lite you are talking about ?

I will try to remove them and see of IC 1.5 comes to life. Remember, it works fine for the XVID but not the DIVX movies.

And by the way, what are the improvements on IC 1.5 vs 1.1 ?

Is it really worthed to upgrade ?

Thanks again for your help.

IC1.5 is huge improvement and must have. There are a lot of post about it in Video - just search a bit.

Concerning Xvid fine and DivX is not - I can suggest you - to force Xvid codec to take care of divX files.
To do so - go to Decoder config in Xvid start menu, and select FourCC support DivX and DX50. From now on - Xvid will be responsible for decoding DivX, and probably - you will not have any problems with it.

Huge improvement? Ther are improvements to be sure, but once you get over the fancy interface the 'improvements' are rather lacklustre.
The best one is support for WMV, but this is flakey and doesn't work with all WMVs.

I'm actually getting slightly worse quality with IC1.5 than 1.0, but also slightly smaller files (Mainly because I cut the audio data rate in half and set it to mono output, but this shouldn't affect the video stream quality!)

As always, YMMV. IC1.5 is a minot improvement, but it's not so great to loose any sleep over it.

*irony on*
yeah, support for compressed audio in videostreams is really a minor improvement
*irony off*

Hello? Wake up, that just makes conversion of divx possible without workarounds for the first time, thats a major improvement - in fact it's the first version that can be told working.
And who cares for ms sucking wmv format? I still use the old movieplayer with the old interface and old codecs cause everything newer from ms just sucks....

I also can't get IC 1.5 to work correctly.
All was working fine with the IC1.1 version (I had to decompress audio of course, but still could get a propoer .mqv file).
With IC 1.5 : I can convert my divx files (I have tried a LOT). They allconvert smoothly (no pb opening them, no pb while converting, I see a little thumbnail of the movie playing)... But .. All the . mqv converted can't be viewed (even on my PC) :( :(
Instead of the movie, I get a black video with little squares of strange colors from time to time :( :(
Please Help !! (I tried desinstalling/reinstalling Quicktime and IC1.5... to no avail).

IC 1.5 works great for me - at least so far. No problems with the PC side or playback using either MoviePlayer of FMP by CliePet on my TH55. The major improvement is not having to use VirtualDub to decode MP3 audio tracks any more.

I got the same issue on my PC at work, when I try to play MQV movies in QT. But movies plays fine on my home PC (QT) and on my UX.
So black video - doesn't mean that it wont play on you Clie.

P.S. If you still have problems with playing it on Clie and using old Clie NX or something - install update for videoplayer from Sony site.

This sounds a lot like a video codec problem to me - I've had a lot of trouble with XviD in this regard (There are two different Xvid codecs - They are both compiled from the same source but aren't 100% compatible with each other).

I take it you can play the videos normally and everything is okay, but the converted MQV is the only problem? Mmm... that's weird... did it ever work with IC1?

Could try upgrading your DivX codec too...

Thanks for the replies :

222aaah, I tried the mqvs on my clie (NX70 with the last Sony update), and they won't work either.

Cyker, I will try to reinstall my divx codecs and let you know. But what is really weird is that I can play the original videos on my PC, and even IC1.5 can preview them without any pb, and the preview during the conversion is ok
