On the nx the hump on the back is a compact-flash slot. it only orks with sonys wifi card, but c-f memory cards fit in it,but dont work. people are making a driver to allow us to use it for other uses(mainly memory.)
Hpoe this helps u understand!

A CF (Compact Flash) Driver would allow us NX users to use our CF Slot for more than just the Sony Wireless Lan Card. (i.e. memory). It would be great because Compact Flash can hold quite a bit more memory and is cheaper than the Sony Memory Sticks.

The bigget problem is Sony's reluctance to supply developers any information nor wants to write a CF driver themnselves. One can only speculate that Sony doesn't want any competition with it's memory sticks.

But some company is working on drivers for either peripherals or memory, can't remember which :-(. It would be sweet because you can get 1gb cf and a 1gb microdrive MUCH cheaper than MS pro. Not to mention Sandisk is coming out with 2 and 4 gig cf cards :-)

I hope the driver is less than 5 dollars!:D

The driver allows the device to communicate properly with the CF card and to be used as a storage device like the MS. Currently the OS just sees the card but can't use it.

The driver is software that does the above.

Sony is not stupid, they are business out to make money. I am not defending them. When it hurts their wallet, then things change.

Almost every piece of hardware requires a driver. You have video, audio, printer, hard drives, modems, mice, and so on for drivers. A driver is basically a written set of instructions telling the processor how to talk to it's peripherals.

And also, there is a difference in being an idiot and just not knowing. There is a lot to say about someone who is not afraid to ask a question when they don't know the answer.

It's called a learning curve;)!

Please remember, some of us have been at this stuff for years. We can't expect everyone to know everything, especially if your a newbie. I agree sometimes we forget and take things for granted, then again I never claimed to be perfect, not even close:D!
