I just upgraded to Kinoma Player 3 EX and Producer 3 and I'm pretty impressed. Especially now that it works well with my T5. Nice quality MP4 and plays iTunes M4A's :D
I was not very impressed at the upgrade price though :(
More to come as I run thru the rest.

If you hold a license for a previous version, it was sent to your registered email address...my problem is, the temp. registration code doesn't unlock the Handheld App.

Thats odd......mine did, but not the Player EX version just the standard KP 3.0.
I've converted a few wmv's and mpeg's....they look pretty good in 480x320 on the T5 :D

Any chance you could post the Change Log or tell us what is new in Producer/Player 3?

I'd post them right now but I didn't forward the email from Kinoma to my work email this morning. If someone else hasn't posted the specs by the time I get home, I'll get them up then.

Heres a bit of info about KP 3.0 from the email I received this morning.
The new Kinoma Producer 3 can create MPEG-4 and AAC output for Palm OS 5 based handhelds running Kinoma Player 3 EX. MPEG-4 has very high visual quality, compared to the Kinoma 2 movies you are now making. AAC audio sounds incredible and takes up far less space.
You will find dozens of refinements along with powerful new import capabilities in your copy of Kinoma Producer 3. To take advantage of these new output formats, Kinoma is also releasing Kinoma Player 3 and Kinoma Player 3 EX.
Kinoma Player 3 EX extends your ability to playback even more media types. You can now play the best quality MPEG-4 and H.263 video, new audio playback of unprotected iTunes AAC songs, some QuickTime files, and the ability to view JPEG images directly. In the next few days we will be updating the Kinoma web site with details about these new products

Any chance you could compare Kinoma 3 to MMplayer? I know this is tough as MMplayer requires you to convert the videos yourself. I used Kinoma player (v1) with my T1 for a very long time and really enjoyed the simplicity. On my T3 the video's on MMplayer were just so much better than the quaility I could get with Kinoma.

My question is whether it is better than the included app on the TH-55?

Thanks for the info SuperSaiyan. Any idea when they'll release 3 publicly?
To jjesusfreak01 : As I undesrtand it technically Kinoma is not better. Using the built-in player allows movies to run through the Clie's built-in DSP which saves battery power and probably has some performance benefits. However, if you are a mac user, like me, and find running IC inconvenient then I would say it is advantageous. At least until I can figure out how to get Quicktime pro to encode MPEG4s that will actually play on the Clie :-)

nickms,
I'm not sure what Kinoma meant by "updating the site with details in the next few days" but I would expect that they would offer it publicly then as well. I don't see a reason for them not to. It's very solid and IMHO, ready for release.

The basic player is free, but it can do about nothing. EX does require a reg fee.

They must have chosen to charge for Player EX because it can play any MPEG4 files thus removing the need for you to buy Producer to create content. I still wish I could get standard MPEG4s to play natively on me Clie or at least make files that would play without have to use IC. However, at least this product seems more stable than mmplayer.

The producer does seem to be much faster than old versions, so the price may be worth it.

I just used cladDVD (freeware) :D to rip a movie to mpeg and then Producer to MP4. The whole process to a little over 2 hours and it looks pretty good on my T5 (sounds great). The only thing I dont like is when viewing in landscape, you need to tilt to the left to see clearly. Its better in portrait as you only have to tilt it up a bit. I do miss not having to do that on my UX but everything else very nice.
