You answered your own question. The beta is over. The new version has been released. Buy it. :)

This can't really be considered a work-around, as it will mess with other things like scheduled events, but I got extra time out of my beta by simply turning back my clock one day when it dumped on me at work.

When I got home I registered for the whopping five bucks, and was on my way.

That might get you by as a temp fix, but definitely purchase ZL.
You won't regret it!

He paid $12 for it before (before version 5). The 5 bucks covers the upgrade fee to version 5.

Yeah, buy it.

In general, it's a bad idea for someone who doesn't already own and use an app to get a beta. You'll get the wrong impression of a product from betas.

In this case, zLauncher betas are usually pretty good, so this isn't much of an issue.

Bottom line, atatarak, if you like the product, buy it. If you "can't live without it," then $20 is a small price to pay.

While you're waiting for your payment to go through and your registration code to come, your only real option is to set back your clock. Or, better yet, remove the beta and download the released version. I think you get a few days "trial" period with it, which should cover you until you get your registration code.

I had the most unpleasant experience yesterday. The beta expired in the middle of the day when I was not at my computer. I'm glad that I was capable of accessing the system Preferences after a reset. That allowed me to map a hardware button to Applications or Home on my Zod. I can't believe that their beta expiration locks a user out of an obvious means to accessing applications. I was meeting with a general contractor on a jobsite in order to write down some notes when the expiration screen appeared. I had to put him on hold while I thought through how I was going to access bonsai without a launcher.

Yeah, it's bad that it doesn't just turn itself off and reset your default launcher. However, you were told that there was an expiration on the beta. And it's been well know that the released version has been available for a couple of weeks. (Not meaning to sound like I'm blaming you... so, sorry if I'm coming off that way)

Hmmm, I have been using the beta as well, however I did set an appointment in my datebook to remind me that it would expire. I have been testing version 5 from day one, I am still very satisfied with version 4.

I got burned by this too. Admittedly I wasn't paying much attention when ZL 5 was officially released because I was running the latest beta and figured there wasn't much difference between that and the release version, and I'd get around to installing it later. Somehow I missed when it was announced that there was a fee for the upgrade, and when the beta expired I was stuck with the unregistered version for about a day while waiting for my code (after being totally unable to use my Clie once the beta expired).

I don't mind at all having to pay the $5 after a couple years of free upgrades of an amazing app, but I think if you're going to let your existing users install a beta of a new version, it should be noted up front if you intend to charge them for the final version (especially if that's not normal company policy). In this case I would still have paid for it, but with other apps I've felt compelled to buy an upgrade because I'm already running the beta and didn't want to deal with the hassles of downgrading and screwing up databases.

And the way it completely locks up the Clie when the beta expires is just unacceptable. It should pop up an alert box with an option like "exit to launcher" or something.

Guys,

is there a way to have to HOME icon on the silk and the bottom bar 'mapped' to ZL? If yes, how? When my ZL was working, and I was in another app, I kept pressing HOME which would take me to the default launcher :( . I mapped a hardkey to ZL but I still sometimes press the HOME button (too used to pdas) which is a bit annoying....

Thank you.

is there a way to have to HOME icon on the silk and the bottom bar 'mapped' to ZL?This has probably been explained better in other threads, but I'll attempt a guess. In the ZL preferences menu (under Options), on the general tab there is a checkbox for "Default launcher." That needs to be checked. Also, in Clie Organizer, on the applications tab (the launcher), in the menu under Clie Organizer prefs, make sure "Assign to home" is unchecked. I think those two things are all you need, but if you get stuck a search for ZLauncher and Home should turn up better responses.
