Does anyone know when sony will release rom upgrades to OS5.2 / OS 4.1.2. These two versions will have the Graffiti 2 aka jot. As well, soes anyone know if you will be able to choose which you want to use?

I seriously doubt we will see Sony release a FlashROM update to these OS versions. I hope I'm wrong, but I just seriously doubt it.

From what I've read, the versions are already available to sony, it is their decision when to start shippin, but 4.1 -> 4.1.2 is a minor upgrade, and hopefully they will come out with something.

Sony has done it before, but that was for color correction. A need in many eyes, but what does the bump to 4.1.2 offer?

OS5.2 with Jot2 would be great for the Tungsten... you could just leave the slider closed all the time, being able to write on the screen with Jot. I installed the trial of Jot on my NX just so I could enjoy Hires+ in Datebk5 and Contacts while still entering data.

It brings the addition of Graffiti 2m which is also known as Jot. It is much more like pur "english" characters, and for novice users, facilitates using the Clie, and allows for faster data entry.

As I understand it, you will still use the graffiti entry area, unless you get a hack that lets you use anywhere on screen(and no hacks in os5)

I've been using Jot since my first PDA and I seldom write on the screen. Doing that a lot will scratch it up and I hate screen protectors. But the conversion to "normal English characters" by Jot is worth it's cost, even though I still write in the graffiti area. So, I say all that to say I wouldn't make a big deal out of it if the upgrades you speak of don't allow screen writing.

That's why this is good news... when Jot is integrated into the OS you will be able to write on the screen without hacks. It is part of the Jot program. Palm is using Jot in the Tungsten W, which doesn't have a graffiti area. I think we may see more devices without silkscreened graffiti areas as people become used to Graffiti2.

From what I read, it will not exactly be jot as Graffiti 2, it will be jot style recognition, but implamented in a palm method. This most likely means it will use the jot patterns, but within the graffiti area.

This is kind of related to the subject.. PalmInfoCenter has posted a story on the different on-screen input methods out right now. 'The Great Input Showdown Part II'

For anyone with a TungstenT, looking at the TungstenW, Handera, Treo, or NR and NX users... this is a pretty good article to get an impression on the different options.

Dreaming here...but wouldn't it be awesome if Sony released .2 for the NR series and included the hi-res launcher, and VG capable versions of the internal apps as well as G2?

That would seriously rock.

I'm sure you guys would love that, but that seems unlikely. The HiRes launcher is OS5.
