This thing is absolutely AWFUL. You have to go through intense exercise training just to be able to get your fingers to press down on the keyboard! The audio volume Sucks...mape was right! I think the Zire has more value than this piece of sh....Sorry to sound so angry, but I was hoping to finally find the perfect palm.

VG instead keyboard would make TG much better.

I thought Sony would have stuck more along the lines of the NZ keyboard. I find that to be so much easier to use than my old NR.
This isn't good to hear. I have to go see a TG in person.

I do think seeing one in person would be the key. This is the first complaint I've heard about the keyboard being hard to type on - should be interesting to watch in the next few weeks to see if this problem is verified.

I doubt Unregistered has used the TG50.

I got to fiddle with a TG50 yesterday and I have to agree that the keyboard is a pretty big disappointment. That's a shame since the TG50 was at the top of the list for my next upgrade.
It really is hard to describe but suffice to say that I personally found the keyboard to be unusable - especially on a device where it was intended to be the primary method of input. The NZ90, Tungsten W and Treo thumboards are much better than the TG50's. My advice to everyone is to go ahead and try one out before buying. I'm glad I did...

I find the keyboard very nice to use. Cant complain. You probably dont want to write a book with it but its completely fine for me.
I guess it all depends on how picky a person is.
Nothing is perfect, prefection is impossible! :-)

it seems those that haven't owned a thumboard-device before have no problems with it-- that is, Treo and NX/NZ owners don't like it but new owners seem to love it.

I also wonder if some units are "looser" than others. I tried out 2 demo units in 2 different stores yesterday. Both were very fresh, and one had a very stiff keyboard that was painful to use, and the other one had a keyboard with noticeably more "give".

It's a good thing that I kept my week old NR70v :)
The keyboard is perfect... but I wish it has a backlight.

no problem with the keyboard here. I like it.
keyboards are a very personal thing.
i dislike the one on my Seiko Thumboard, really dislike the NR,NX, and NZ keyboards (tried them all), think the Treo keyboard is not so great, and love the keyboard on the Motorola Talkabout (I can really rip on that thing!).
if the TG has a keyboard to my liking, I'm going to sell my Tungsten|T and buy it. if not, then the T|T is still best for me.

I tried both the NX and the TG50 keyboard at CeBit on March 14th. I had never tried any of the keyboards before this, and I must agree with Unregistered. The TG50 keyboard was terrible compared to the NX. I actually decided there and then not to go for the TG because of this terrible keyboard. The keys were flimsy, and too flat and close.

Having used the keyboard over the last two days, I can verify that the keys are a little stiff. What I noticed, though, is that I instinctively began using the tips of my thumbs instead of the pads and suddenly the keys weren't so hard to depress. I don't know if the keys will loosen over time but this may be an issue for some. Not for me, though, as now that I'm using the tips of my thumbs the typing has been smooth and I don't type super-long entries into my pda usually, so I'm good.

Then I guess the key is lower your expectation and use the tip of your thumb?

I'm sort of getting used to the keyboard. After a couple days, I got used to it to the point where it is useable, even if I don't like it. I do like the fact that it lights up.

Years ago, a friend of mine complained about his blackberry keyboard, saying it was too stiff. He got some sort of clear rubber overlay to put on top of all the buttons, used an exacto knife to carve around each button, and peeled off the excess. Afterwards, he said it was great. The buttons were raised a little higher, and it was a little softer on the thumbs.
I've only used my NR keyboard, never a blackberry, treo, or TG50. Perhaps this may be a good solution for the TG50 keyboard?

I just got the TG50 yesterday and have no complaints about the keyboard......On a device this small the keyboard is never going to be perfect...........But I dig it, especially like the backlight.
