Yesterday I went to look up an address on my NX70V and discovered that Delta Airlines did me the favor of smashing the LCD panel. Thanks, guys!
I had taken such pains to keep that PDA in working order. They managed to smash through two layers of briefcase, a leather case, several thicknesses of paper and business cards, the closed clamshell, and absolutely shatter the glass.
I've got an order in for the Zaurus sl-6000, but dadgummit, after three years, the NX-70 has become like a body part. I hate to lose it.
It's still functional, except for the display. So what I'd like to do is buy an NX70, 80, 83, etc that has a well preserved LCD, but has a scrambled brain. I figure I can restore functionality.
I've seen several broken NX70s on Ebay, but I had a mint condition screen (no pixels out, absolutely flawless glass) which I would like to try to get back to.
There's got to be someone out there who tossed a brain-dead NX in a drawer who would like to make a little (very little) cash and get the warm feeling you get from helping a fellow Clie user. Please let me know if you are willing to part with your old and busted Clie. If I get a screen transplant candidate, I'll post how I did the replacement, and what the results are.
(I'm also looking forward to seeing how much I'll like a Linux based PDA to go along with my Linux based home network)

Maybe I'm scaring people off by saying I'll pay very little money. I meant I'll pay less than $280, which is the cost of replacing my broken unit with a brand new one.

Keep your eyes on ebay if you haven't already. A dead Clie should pratically be free.
Side note: I saw some web pages describing running Linux on the Clie. Didn't actually read them though...

Re: Ebay - Who knows if the screen has been scratched, or if there are blank pixels? I trust the userbase here much more than the clearance houses selling broken PDAs on Ebay.
Re: Linux on Clie - I've read those articles too. I've got some old PDAs I've played with. The Clie has too many valuable files in it to do a memory wipe (required to convert the OS)

That sucks!
I had a similar problem about a year ago when my clie screen was damaged on my NX70v. I searched everywhere for a clie to use for parts. Unfortunately, you will soon discover that the screen is the weak link of the clie NX. If anyone is interested, I've got a working NX70v (except for the screen) in my closet too. I cant bare the thought of trashing it either!! I do love my new NX80 though.
Good luck on your search!

I not sure if you know about this but it might help.

This link is to a site with parts for PDA's the cost will depend on if you just need the glass (digitizer surface) or the whole screen. If you have cracks but no black lines or black area's the screen should be OK and you will only need the glass. If you see large black spots you might have to replace the whole screen. Check out the link some of the prices are reasonable.

I thought it would be more mentally challenging if I got a Sharp Zaurus, so my broken Clie with all accessories except the headphone setup (misplaced in storage somewhere) are up for sale on Ebay. Auction 5741213608.
I kept the PDA in fantastic condition. It would still be in near perfect shape if I had not handed it's fate over to a baggage handler. On the one hand, I hate to see it go, on the other, I've now got a PDA more powerful/capable than my laptop from 4 years ago.

did you keep your nx70 closed or did you leave it in table mode?

I had it closed, clamshell. Only metal exposed. As stated in the first post, it was closed, inside an old HP 42S calculator's leather case, and inside a pocket of my briefcase. So it had MANY layers of protection.
The briefcase has a dent in it's leather. The Calculator case has a dent in it's leather as well. The only thing I can figure happened was that the baggage handler threw my briefcase onto someone else's suitcase roller wheel.
The metal on the back of the LCD didn't sustain any noticable damage.

I noticed a lot of traffic on that auction after I posted here. You might have noticed the auction is gone now. I'd like to explain what happened.
Someone interested in the bottom half of my PDA only - asked if he could buy just the PDA and let me sell the accessories separately. I said I thought I should stick to my original auction. He went and bought an entirely new PDA, and offered to sell me the top half of his, which is scratchless.
My new plan is to repair my PDA, then put it up for sale on Ebay again, only this time, as a refurb unit, fully functional. I'd keep it, but the Zaurus I replaced it with has so many more features, and I can use the cash.

Has anyone managed to find a source for a screwdriver to fit the star shaped screws used on the nx70? I recently dropped my nx70, didn't break the screen but ended up with the metal part which rotates being bent out about 1/8th inch. I think I could probably bend it back, but don't have the right screwdriver.

Woot!!
It's back, and just as good as ever. One of the auction bidders contacted me, wanting only the bottom, got an entire PDA, and split it with me.
Replacement of the LCD took about 15 minutes, with no prior knowledge or special tools.
Get one of those 15 piece mini screwdriver sets from Radio Shack. Use the smallest straight screwdriver, being careful to apply pressure to one of the five points of the star.
I only had to disassemble the top part. 4 star screws, and five miniature phillips screws.
Now that I've got it working, I'm kinda torn over using the new and powerful Zaurus, or old and familiar Sony.

I have two NX70's and am currently using an NX80. I would be willing to part with one of my NX70's. The display is fine - no scratches, no dead pixels. I don't use it because my fiance spilled wine on it last spring :o( Sony said it needs a new mainboard but I was not willing to pay the $300 so I bought a replacement 70 on ebay. It works, but it takes about 3 or 4 minutes to start up after hitting the power switch. I did take the battery out for my new 70 but again, the display is fine. Not sure what it's worth but I'd be interested in learning how to replace a display. $75 sound reasonable?
