MS problem on NX70

I have this NX70 that was passed down and do not know the true state of it, but so far (10 days) I've had no problem. The other day I tried putting in a regular Memory Stick that I've been using on my Sony camera to take pictures and been able to view/copy the contents of it from a MS reader on the PC. The NX70 did recognize that I inserted the MS as it beeped and the icon went from the memory stick with the orange stripe in the middle to having a "?". When I go to CardInfo it displays a little memory stick icon in the "Card:" field, nothing on the "Type:" field, and None for the "Size:" field. In the middle of the screen, it just displays "Device Id:" nothing else.

ClieFiles do not let me choose anything else other than "Handheld".

I have installed the latest MSPRONX_ENUS.PRC dated 4/18/2003 and SYSUPDATEPACKNX_US.PRC

I've tried other Memory Sticks, but the same problem.

Can you read a CF card with the NX70? That could be a solution... :(

Here's a shot in the dark.
Backup the memory stick on your PC.
re-format it on the CLIE.
If you can't do that, try formatting it on the camera.
Then re-try insertion on Clie.

I think you need to download the driver for the CF memory card access on the NX70. This is pre-loaded on the NX80 though.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to format the MS card from the Clie, a message pops up: "CardError - Insert a Card media." and I'm not able to format it from my Sony Camera, can't see any option for doing that.

I was able to put the MS on another Clie (TJ25) and format it there, but had the same problems when the MS was put in the Clie NX70.

Any other ideas?

*if* i want to get it fixed, is there any (other than Sony) place to take the Clie to get it looked at?

Download the CF utility. BUT... before you move to the CF card, you need to get your NX working properly...

I highly highly recommend you do a hard reset, then use the Clie Update Wizard to update files on the NX70. Go here for the Update Wizard:

1. Back up everything on your Clie to Palm Desktop. Check the Sony Handheld directory to make sure you're kosher.
2. Hard reset.
3. Clie Update Wizard to update everything.
4. Test Memstick slot.
4. Install CF Utility.

If your memstick still will not work, format it on a Sony laptop (they have memstick slots) and try again. Just go to Comp USA or Best Buy and format it there. If that doesn't work then either someone stuck a jelly bean down the Memstick hole or that memstick is hosed.

P.S. Use Google -- pelaca mirror -- is what I searched for...

Have you got JackFlash installed? This exact problem occurs when JackFlash is installed.

hello! i own an nx73 and generally it's working well for me, at least for my needs. since it was given to me 3 months ago, i still can not use the Memory stick. i tried using my sony MS & it's not working. i even bought a sandisk pro & still i get the same popup messages like, "unknown media", "This card cannot be formatted", "This card cannot be recognised", etc.

i did hard and soft resets a couple of times and it's still the same. i don't have any problem with the CF, it's useable. is there any driver i need to load or reload to get it running? please help

rv: apparently the Mem stick pro update that NX70 folks had to install is not required for the NX73. It looks like your 73 has that update already:

Because of this, I'm not sure what's going on. Have you tried that memstick in a Sony laptop at Best Buy? Or another friend's Clie? If it works fine in a laptop, reformat it there and try again. I"ve never seen any problems with mem sticks ever...

Thanks for the help clicclic, cybersmitty, treffmeister. I followed all the steps in clicclic's post, but I still get the same issue about the Memory Stick being an "Unknown media" and with the "?" icon. I guess the actual hardware is messed up :-(

I do not have JackFlash installed.

Where is a good place to take it or send it for analysis?
