Now that zLauncher 5 has been officially released, is anyone working on plugins? I'd love to see some really cool ones. I figured it would be good to have a thread or something where people can post to advertise completed plugins.

Whatever people are working on, i wanna see what people are working on, and want to try out some new plugins.

I wonder too. I thought that since this new plugin system has been so hyped up, that when the final (non-beta) version of ZLauncher v5.00 came out, a number of new plugins would come out with it too. I guess not. :(

Whats the deal with pay upgrade. I thought upgrade were free? I bought Zlauncher during the beta of 5 with the impression it would'nt cost me anything to upgrade to 5.

However, assuming you paid $12 (or less) for 4.x and now must pay $5.95 for 5.0, that nets out at $17.95, two dollars less than if you had waited to purchase 5.0 outright today, yes . . . no? Now, if you can find a better launcher, one that is in a more active state of development, one with better support . . . at any price, go for it! :)

I am not complaining but I thought I saw somewhere that ZL upgrades were free for life. I expect I'll pay the upgrade; I'm just wondering if I dreamt reading about the "for life" thing. Anyone else recollect that?

I appreciate the posts, but there is already a thread for people unhappy with the upgrade fee. I want this thread to be for actual plugins, not complaints. Thanks.

I apologize I seen this one 1st. I redisrected my complaint to the other thread.

To keep this on topic. Has anyone seen the plugin developement stuff. Is it hard to learn? I'm thinking about maybe developing some plugins as my 1st endever in palm programming. I'm familiar with programming in VB, basic, been a while since i used pascal, and I've got the basics of java down but need a little more work with the advanced stuff.

The plugin sdk has not yet been released. If you're serious about developing plugins email zztechs and they'll send it to you.

NOTE: You WILL need to write the plugins in C, so i recommend brushing up on that before starting. Also, in case you haven't done any POS programming yet, it's a very weird system that isn't developer friendly. Therefore, i recommend you do some research at PalmSource.com

hehe :D

1) No idea what to write
2) No idea what the plug-in format will be until i see the SDK, and because of #1 i'm not going to email zztechs and ask for it earlier lol

maybe... regards, sharky

I'd just love to see any plugin really, just something to play with. I'd like to make my own, but I only know some foundations of BASIC, so I don't think I could make anything

spygrad-

i'd say give it a shot. google "C tutorial" and brush up on the syntax/logic, then download ZZTech's SDK when it comes out and try it!

Thanks for the reply. I signed up for the PalmOS developers stuff. I'm going to start reading it this weekend. Are there any open source C IDEs. I have eclipse for java. I wonder if they have a C add on.

Only 1 open source C IDE made by PalmSource: Palm OS Developer Suite. Google it and you'll find the info and download link.

Alternatively, GCC/PRC-Tools is a very powerful C compiler for Palm but unfortunately there isn't an included IDE.

Finally, there's CodeWarrior. Very powerful, amazingly speedy, small apps, and all that good stuff, but for $400

NB: PODS is currently the ONLY way to develop OS 6 apps. This may change after the release of a Cobalt device.

...that today plugin what does come with zlauncher 5.0 is too simple however it has nice options for example: where you can choose color for text or that next appointments in 30 minutes will start to blink, but that is not enought ! it would be great if developers would try to make new today plugin with new options like email support, where it would show new emails...

I have a good Idea how about making a plugin that will put the backgound behind the zlauncher theme's rather than over righting the whole thing with a full page image.. this could be done by making adjustments to the second image (background) and then placing over the current theme background.. this way we could have nice backgrounds and bars at the same time..

Also a nice built in dimmer control and true brightness adjuster that could go all the way down like energy dimmer (doesnt support zire 72 so make your support it ;))

For those of you who can develop such things (I've sent this list to
zztechs as well), how about a plugin that:
has a configurable analog clock
runs a Silver-Screen-type ticker
displays a moonphase graphic
lets you insert an animated GIF or short video
shows a rotating globe with dark- and daylight
with wireless capability, displays current stocks, scores, temps
serves as a doodle pad
And how about a program that will allow you to choose two or three of
these and automatically move from one to the next at the user's
choice of speed?
