I love all of the T5 threads -- really I do. But I know there are many P1 users out there that just purchased a brand new T3. I had my first chance to use my new T3 outside of the usual work -- home commute and I thought I would share my experiences. The annual ASHG conference (american society of human genetics) gave me a perfect chance to test my T3 to the limits.

Wifi (P1 card of course):
Because of a scheduling mistake I had two hours to kill at the Philly airport. I found a free hotspot (Terminal F food court - I think it was the pilots lounge above the food court). Checked 1src and sent a few emails off. I found finding a hotspot in Toronto difficult (yes I checked jiwire). The few I did find did not work well with PDAs. I am sure a local PDA enthusiast knows better spots. The toronto conference center was WiFi enabled but did not allow attendees access or a chance to pay for service. This is a shame because I would have loved the chance to distract myself during some of the lectures.

MMplayer:
Only an hour flight but I watched last weeks CSI on the way to Toronto (and impressed the rest of the plane of course).

Docs to go:
I love the ability to jot down some notes on the lectures. I even typed up a manuscript proposal during one break and already e-mailed it to work

e-reader:
Still had plenty of free time to read Great Expectations. Only my 2nd e-book but I am hooked.

Negatives:
Off course I strugled with battery life at times. I do not own a PTG but I did carry my P1 international travel charger with me and found a free outlet everytime my battery dipped too low.

All in all I am very pleased. If you are not sure about the T5 the T3 has my vote.

Check my site for an alternative to the PTG sled.

How did you download an episode of CSI onto your Palm and how much memory did this take?

rickmelton01: I have been to your site a few times to look at your product. Honestly I have thought about purchase, but I am just not far from my desk or home computer often. Still I think it is a great alternative to the PTG

The Palmster: Actually using MMplayer was one big reason I moved from the T1 to the T3. I don't have a lot of free time at home, but it seems like I end up with a 30min to 1hour lull at work. I usually do some paper work at the same time I catch up on my favorite episode. I use a TV capture card every night. I think it was $21.99 at CompUSA and it is called PCTV vision. You can Google quite a few discussion forums on TV capture cards. I have a list of shows that it captures -- lI think it is scheudled for one show a day excpet Friday and Saterday. MMplayer will play the captured show right then if you have a big enough SD card. I use virtual dub and junglemikes video guide to size down the shows. I use a setting of 200MB for an hour show and the quailty is great (much better than Kinoma IMHO although Kinoma is simple). I haven't tried to get the shows smaller since I have a 512 SD card just for videos.

Take a look at JungleMikes guide. It is fairly simple and well written although honestly it took me a couple of tries to figure it out. If you need any help just PM me with some questions (although I am far from an expert).
