I posted a few months back regarding the digitzer. Palm stated it was due to 3rd party software. NOT!
I was considering waiting for a super product from Palm but I just don't think I would feel good giving my money to someone that dosen't back their product and instead blames third party software. Have they never heard of the words RECALL or the pharse "credit to upgrade"?
I am considering, after much thought, to jump to Pocket PC. Check this out:

This bad boy has all the bells and whistles.

I really like the Palm OS system. I am used to it. I have a good amount of paid software that I don't think I will be able to use with a Pocket PC but I think I have reached the end.

Should I wait and give Palm one more chance? This new machine looks tempting.

Whatever you do, I would continue to bug Palm1 to exchange your T3. Point them to some digitizer drift threads, if they don't believe you. At least you get a working T3, which you can use or sell it and buy the Dell.

Call Palm again. I did an advanced exchange for the digitizer problem on my T3. Others have as well.

Yup I lived with it for as long as I could. Then decided to call in for an exchange while it was still under warranty (11 months+). Palm tech support was very cooperative - usually I don't give them a chance to give the usual BS about hard reset etc as I tell them what I have already done
- clean hard reset
- no third party software installed
- digitizer drift still occurs
- this is definitely a hardware issue

PalmAsia still gives great support. I got my T3 replacement within 24 hours via DHL

Thanks for the info. I contacted Palm, put a stop to the runaround and they changed their whole attitude. They were really nice and did an advance exchange for me. The T3 that I received has the same bright screen and actually looks to be brand new. I am very, very happy. I really have to give Palmone a thumbs up with my own situation.

I dropped my T|T3 off of a table a few months back, and ever since then my digitizer was a bit off and very annoying. I did a search on google and found a thread on this forum that suggested to use a program called DigiE. I did find a few other suggested programs but they never work. The reason why this program works is because you calibrate the whole screen when at 320x450, not just at 320x320.

Obviously some people would be returning their devices back to Palm, but running this program should be tried first.. Palm should write a progam like this one!!!

Freeware Palm link to DigiE (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/digie.shtml)

Tried DigiE and uninstalled after it made my T3 auto on and auto off.

I use DigiE. After calibrating the digitizer I copy the program itself onto the SD card and keep it stored there. Prevents the problem you speak of and the digitizer setting (for me anyway) remains calibrated.

Hope this helps.

ok, now I am going to ask a silly question, what do you mean by digitzer??? Thanks

The digitizer is the screen, essentially. Some units have issues where the coordinates are off (i.e. you tap at one spot, but the device thinks you tapped at a spot some distance away).

Thanks applejosh! From what I read, there are programs that can fix the problem with coordinates. Before buying my T5, I changed three iPAQ hx4700s due to the fact that all of them had a short of manufacturing defect....The last one had the problem with coordinates!

Cheers

Sometimes they can be fixed. Sometimes they can't. Regardless, I don't think anyone should have to put up with that if it is indeed a hardware problem. I've been very lucky with my T3 (knock on wood) in this regard.

Well, the third hx4700 had this problem since I took it out of the box and considering that I pad £430, I asked for my money book. Just for the reckords, the first one had problems with the cradle and the second one a dead pixel.....this is bad luck. HP support was great though.

Thanks applejosh!

I tried the digi, and the digie. It was taking the fix for a while but got progressively worse to the point that when the slider was extended, there was a gap of almost 1/4inch difference in the digitizer. I had started a post a while back:
http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54609
and finally my last nerve snapped.
HOWEVER, as I posted, in my case, Palmone listened to me and did an advance exchange and I think I have a brand new unit. I only have KUDOS for Palmone and the way they took care of my case.
-No, I don't work for Palmone. Take a look at my other post and one can see that I was upset, ready to jump ship and get a Dell but I must give credit when it's due and Palmone took care of me.
