Picked up a new T5 from Staples yesterday (I had to upgrade the ROM though - which went just fine). I really think it's a great machine.

I consider myself a heavy Palm user for >5 years now (Palm V and Tungsten T). I love the speed increase over my Tungsten, the larger screen and memory (especially the drive mode), the reduced weight and the increased run times. I even like Graffiti 2 a lot. Much more intuitive than the old version (despite heavily using it for 5 years). Overall I'm very happy for now. All the major software I use works fine. I only wish the cradle would be already available.

Anyway, I noticed one thing: For some reason my old T and the T5 apparently cannot communicate via IR (not that I need it, Bluetooth works fine). My even older V and the T5 can exchange data without problem. I wonder if anybody else has a similar experience?

Cheers.

You might check and make sure that both devices are both setup to accept beamed information. Go to PREFS, then POWER, then check to make sure BEAM RECEIVE is ON.

Take care,
Lance

That's exactly what I did. I double checked with the Palm V. Both, the Tungsten T and the Tungsten T5 can send and receive files to and from the Palm V. However, they cannot send data to each other.

Cheers.

Weird - my m515 and T5 can communicate via IR.

Maybe an issue with PalmOS 5,0 as opposed to 5,2,1 and 4,1/3,5,3.

Thanks for the tip. Soft reset on both devices did it.

Cheers.

Interestingly I have exactly the same problem between my treo 600 and th55. I almost always have to soft reset the treo to get beaming to work.
