View Full Version : Any pictures of the red stage lights on the sont screen?
Does any Tungsten T3 user have any pictures of those infamous red stage lights on the Sony screen? Or perhaps pictures of the sony screen compared to the sharp screen?
-Thanks

Here's a comparison pic of the Sony screen (on the left in the T5) vs the Sharp screen (on the right in the T3):

The pic isn't that good, but it does show the difference in color rendition. The Sharp has a much more blue tint and far less contrast. The Sony renders the LCD screen color much more accurately.
Here's a pic of the "stage lights" in the Sony screen. They're only visible from the angle shown - you can't see them straight on:

For those new here. Slinger had switched the screens between his T5 and the T3. So take note of that with the pictures. All reports so far indicate that the T5 has the Sharp-manufactured screen.

Thank you so much for the pics! I am planning to buy a T3 and I didn't know what the stage lights looked like.
Is it safe to assume that the units with the stage lights have the better screens? I've been following the debate over the two types of screens on the T3 and I really want to get the better one :)
Thank you.

Thanks for that info GadgetGuru, very very helpful. When I was viewing the photos (which are great BTW slinger, thanks), I was thinking I had read somewhere that Sony screens were not in the T5's as far as we know.
It would also be good to hear more reports on which screens are in the T5s out of the box, particularly if Sony screens start showing up in them. It would be such a shame if there weren't any.

GadgetGuru - I bought a T5 at the Fry's in Anaheim last Friday and it has the Sony screen with stage lights. So apparently there is a mix out there. I guess I got lucky :)

Yippee! That's good news. I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons not to upgrade from a TT to a T5. Thanks. :D

Slinger, what is the software that you are using? the one that emulates the HP 48GX in the pictures?

The software in the comparison pic is Power48 ( http://power48.mobilevoodoo.com/ ), which I happen to know something about! ;)
The software in the stage light pic is something else, which I'll leave to the reader to figure out. Some hints: It's not Power48, nor is it an existing commercial product, but it is quite real...

A TT? What kind of screen does yours have, a Sharp one? Im assuming the TT screens are sharp due to their horrible clarity and image quality.

I assume it is a Sharp because I can't see any stage lights.
As for clarity and image quality, well, I haven't found it limiting what I do with it. I haven't compared its screen head-to-head with other devices, because I didn't feel like denting my high satisfaction with it. The images I view on it are OK really; perhaps when I compare it to something newer I'll only be that much more keen to move over to a TT5.
And, of course, if I move to a TT5, I'll want a Sony screen if I can get one. I'm not sure how to increase my chances though.

Thank you Slinger for the information. I was curious because it is the best emulator that I had seen. Could the software in the stage light pic be a TI-89 emulator?

Where did you get the second calculator software? Not the Power48. How can I get it? Please Help. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's certainly a possibility...

I didn't get it from anywhere, except perhaps my own addled mind. You can't get it yet 'cause I haven't finished it, but have patience - it'll be out there soon enough.

Slinger, I also have an interest in the TI-89 emulator. If you have a emailing list, put me on it!
Thanks

BTW, in answer to your question at the top of the thread, I have a T3, and can't find the red stage lights from any angle. (Rats!)

I have a T5 purchased from Staples with 4 stage lights barely visable at the bottom, but they are white rather than orange. Sony or Sharp??

I upgraded from a TT to a T5 on saturday. My new T5 nor my TT have the stage lights, however, I disassembled my TT a few times to fix the digitizer problem a year ago and the screen in my TT was in fact a sony screen. It did not have stage lights, and was superior in quality. Might it be possible that sony makes screens without stage lights? I mean to say, it's obviously possible, since my TT had a sony screen.

::edit:: (five minutes later) I just remembered something. When I took my TT apart, I saw the the actual screen was made by NEC, and the chip made by sony. Still no stage lights, but also nothing "sharp" about it.
