Welp, I had a chance to check it out at Circuit City yesterday and as expected I am unimpressed. Sure there are a few things that I really like since I currently am still utilizing my TT but I was really expecting so much more. I guess my trip to see the demo unit was more of a should I hold off another season our purchase now and I have concluded that I will be holding off till the next release cycle. Mabye I'll purchase a used T3 to hold me over. All I want in the new one is WiFi, larger screen, new OS. At least with the T3 I'll get one of the features with the new screen.

Why am I posting this to the forum? Well, my wife is sick of hearing me constantly talk about this model (this is what I wanted when I purchased my TT) as she could care less and I just had to get it off my chest.

Any ideas as to when the next round of units will be rolled? I remember reading that historically spring would be the next release.

Since we have not decided wether or not the T5 is an interim release, it is hard to say when palm will release a new handheld. If it is an interim release, we may be able to expect an OS 6 T6 handheld soon.

There will be no more PalmOne units this year. It is logical though to think that Spring will be their next major release rollout. Hopefully for us, it will be a short winter.

Nothing is set in stone in the electronics industry. If the T5 will sell well, we won't see anything new before Spring. If it sells less than expected, Palm1 might release something before that time.

Please don't torture me like this. The prospect of the next model coming sooner than Spring is too much for me to handle after all the T5 turbulence. ;)

It takes many months to get a new model ready. PalmOne can't produce a new PDA in two months just because sales are slow.

How do I locate the FCC report for the T5? I'm interested in comparing the FCC posting to the actual offical word from Palm and the date semi-accurate rumors started posting.

My hopes are that the T5 was the "shell" that was being tested in 2 phases, one as we see it an one with OS6 and WiFi. I read about 3 months ago about a WiFi chip (can't remember developer) that was extremely small and used little power. Mabye they were able to get the OS5 version tested enough to get it released to market before Christmas (even though they have already released a patch before the "official" release) and they need a few more months to put the other model through testing before production in Jan or Feb.

I know...wishfull thinking!

No, but they most probably have something in the works already. The could rush a modell which was meant to be released in Spring, something which happened obviously with the T5, hence the very obvious bugs in it.
Do you think the T2 was a planned release? Palm1 could come to the conclusion, to try something similar, if sales of the T5 are below expectations.

Go to https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm, in the Grantee Code box, type o3w. Push enter. On the top, where it says grant date, click. They should now be organized with the most recent first. The top listing is the T5.

I just moved from the UX40 to a T5 and I am very impressed. If WiFi is key to your next upgrade then I see your point. Im very content with bluetooth and found that I never used the voice recorder. Fear not - these days theres always a new PDA around the corner.

I use bluetooth exclusively for synching...can't remember the last time I used my cradle for anything other than charging. To be honest I don't even know how much I would use WiFi, I just know at times I would just rather fire up my PDA on my network instead of one of my laptops to either look something up or shoot out an email. It's not essential to my daily activities but I don't think I want to shell out $400-$500 without it.

Good points, and I agree with almost everything. For me, I find the convenience of WiFi to be more, but can live without it. Checking stock prices, trading, moving money, paying bills, buy tickets (plane, movie, sports, other), checking weather, traffic, news, email.

On the other hand, no WiFi, but only bluetooth, with a bluetooth phone, you get the benifits of wireless PLUS better wider access. For example, in your car, at the park, in a restaurant, beach, or any other place that wifi is very likely not to be. Which makes me pissed off with Verizon that they've restricted bluetooth on the v710 I bought, specifically so I could surf with my Palm via Bluetooth... ggrrr..
