G'day all.

My T3 has been stolen, so I have to replace it. (And, after 48 hours of not having it around, it's driving me mad, I can tell you...) Looks like their insurance will cover it.

I'm a sports journalist (in Australia) - I NEVER go anywhere without both my Palm and my phone, so a convergent device would be great.

New device MUST have Bluetooth.

I don't have any T3 specific accessories.

Choices seem to be:

Replace with another T3.
Pros: used to it, smallish, know how to run it, know software works on it.
Cons: Still really, REALLY, hate the slider after a year of ownership

Get new T5.
Pros: 320 x 480 24/7, better battery.
Cons: New memory system stuffs up third-party apps like Datebook, etc.

Get new Treo.
Pros: All in one which I would love
Cons: small screen, stupid thumb-board, price

Get 02 XDA2.
Pros: All in one which I would love, screen, BIL has one and loves it
Cons: PPC OS, price

Not trying to start a war here - the T3 was my third Palm, following a 505 (which my wife now has) and a IIIXE - but quite frankly, the XDA II looks like the best one of the bunch. I have NO faith in the direction Palm is heading after seeing the T5 and reading about the problems the Datebook programmer is having with the new memory system, although it now looks like those might be ironed out for THAT app.

Maybe it's time to go to the dark side. I never thought I'd say that. Ever.

Anyone know where I can find forum where these things are discussed rationally? I found the following forum in the UK (www.tekguru.co.uk) and the consensus of opinion is that the XDA II is a great device, but maybe they're as blind as us :-)

Cheers.

Get a T5, most apps as Lance had pointed out, worked fine. You wouldn't have to spend more money buying new apps too. It seems that once the quirks are ironed out, the T5 will be a winner for end-users... for developers, it just adds a little bit of headache, which hopefully will be solved once PalmOne releases the official simulators...

The Treo is great, but will have the same quirks as the T5, and you would have to go PDA-less for a month or more, as it may take awhile before it is launched internationally...it's not even available in the US until mid-November.

XDA II, is nice but too big, in my taste. If you really want a darkside device, wait for the Motorola or go HP 6xxx, but HP's device is slower than the XDA...

Another T3? Nah, losing it means a chance to upgrade... for me, getting a new device and the nice feeling of playing with a new experience is worth probably half the price you are paying...the other half is of course, making the device work for you and more productive...that's where the T3 shines, but so would the others, given time...
