View Full Version : Screen Buzz
Blah-Blah

I read a number of people posting about a buzz that comes from their screen.
Is anyone aware if this is more of an issue on the E than the T3?
How widespread is it amongst the E's? (All/most/common/rare?)

I hate my T3... It squeals...Gives me a headache. I wrote to PalmOne... They basically told me that it was the "technology" in the screens that they use in all the new devices. I wrote back and told them that it was BS! They sent me a survey. I filled it out :o)
But seriously... I'm an Apple user (17" iMac). What else can I do. I tried an iPaq with the translating software for Mac... It sucks. I tried using LightSpeed, but it crashes the hell out of my T3. I thought about a T5, but wanna wait till all the bugs are worked out. Besides... It's not a big jump in features to justify another $400.
It's a love/hate thing. I love it, but I dread using it.

After my experience with my old Sony N760, I opted to get the 2 year extended warranty on all new handhelds I purchase. Needless to say, I'm on my 4th T3, for various reasons. The one I'm currently using (for about 3 weeks) has the same screen whine everyone has been talking about, but not nearly as bad as the last one. However, I returned my last one after 5 weeks of use; the screen whine became continually worse over that timespan.
I believe this was mentioned in the forum somewhere, but the original T3 screens (with the four orange 'stage lights' across the bottom) didn't seem to suffer from this screen whine problem. The original T3 I bought in January had the stage lights, and didn't suffer from any screen problems. If you're lucky enough to find a T3 with the original screen, that's probably the only way to solve this problem. If the screen on mine gets worse, I'm switching to a T|C or trying out a PPC. The T3 has been a great device, but one tainted by Palm's poor quality control.

I think I would have noticed the screen whine on my own, but I was also really looking for it after reading so many posts. I have the "blue" sharp screen on my T3, but honestly it looks really nice (and no I do not want to see a sony screen to compare).
I only notice the screen whine in quiet rooms, but it started to drive me crazy. I downloaded PXA clocker and set the system default to 354 and the whine went away. OK the whine is there on start up but once you open up an app - really any app - the whine is gone.

There is a definite buzz on the T5, but generally it is not audible in any condition other than in a very quiet room.

My T E the buzz/whine varies. Sometimes its not there and other times it is real loud in comparison. i noticed to that if I vary the clock speeds with lightspeed. Some speeds slower that the default make it worse or better in some apps. The real weird thing is i only get it while in apps but not in Zlauncher or in the default launcher areas. Most of the time I don't notice it (most likely because its been doing it since the 1st day I bought it). I bought a replacement warranty from the place I bought it from so if anything more goes bad that what has already I will be getting a new one.

My TE had a very load whine. Lightspeed helped, but it was still a nuisance. After about 2 months, my T5 is silent. I put it to my ear every few days to check it. If it starts whining, I'll definitely get a ppc next.

Do PPCs suffer from this whine/buzz. I was told it was the screen technology by someone. I assume the mean a defect in the design.
