View Full Version : Single most important add-on program?

I'm curious:
There a several threads regarding recommended software add-ons. I'm wondering what people think is the single most important one. i.e., if they could only add ONE AND ONLY ONE to their stock SJ30, what would it be?
p.s. - is there really anything better than an SJ30, really? :)

I use an NX, but my wife uses an SJ30, so am I eligible to answer this? Actually for anyone with a Palm OS device, I would say DB5. It's the one app I use several times a day and has changed my life.
DateBook5, without question. It keeps me organized by remembering things for me and reminding me when necessary.

i would agree in principle (datebook replacement) but i have to put forth agendus as my choice. it replaces both the datebook and the address book and allows the two to be seemlessly integrated.

I read the title to this thread, and I came in ready to respond with Datebk5. I see a couple here beat me to it :D
This app really does save my life. I don't know if I could keep up with my schedule without it. The default datebook program seems so flat in comparison to the complexity and power of Datebk5. Everytime I jot down my work schedule for the week using a combination of the jog dial and GraffitiAnywhere I just have to grin to myself at how quick and easy it all is.

Kidding. Actually, for me the most important program I use is a tie between SplashMoney and Sheet to Go.

Probably DB5 or Shadow. Tough call.

Datebook 5, it should be the standard datebook on all palms! The built-in datebook doesn't even compare, it doesn't have a detailed weekly view, color fonts and sizes etc. (DB5 has a lot of views). I bought some icon collections to it and this is the BEST EVER.

Since me and my wife both work in retail and have crazy schedules, it would have to be Dual Date. you can see both schedules at once.

It's a toss up for me....Documents to Go (especially sheets to go) or DateBk5 that I just loaded to try.

replacement contact sw. the built-in contact software is useless.

For me, the native Address Book is the only built-in PIM app that I haven't replaced yet. I've tried several other Contact programs, but all they added were things I didn't need. Of course, my address book is much smaller than others (~130 entries).

Datebk5 gets my vote as well. Although Daynotez is hot in the running.

rldunn... how has it changed your life? Aren't all datebooks esentially the same anyways?

I'm not rldunn but Datebk5 has changed MY life as well! To begin, this program allows you to color code anything. So, I create categories for my life (Personnel, work, grad school, etc). So, I can, at a glance, take in what I have to do, or where I have to be, according to the category I'm interested. If I'm interested in only seeing personnel stuff (which for me is pink) then I can skip reading all the other colors. Saves some time for me every time open my clie.
Also, I pay attention to how many things I schedule for myself in each category. Which is easy to see because of the various colors. This way, I am able to keep my life much more balanced.
I love being able to see my TODO list (which I also color code) on the same page as my calendar. I begin the day be trying to figure out when I can get my various TODO's in. I'm much more effecient now.
I can also add icons! I can prioritize TODO's. The whole look of it is just wonderful! I find I won't use something that doesn't appeal to my eye.
I have become far more organized, and my life is far more balanced since I began using Datebk5 (acutally I began with Datebk4). Funny thing also is, I still find myself discovering very useful features of the program from time to time, and I've been using it for quite some time now.

I would have to agree on DateBk5 as well although I used to use Agendus and it had the same effect. Not all date books are equal. It is only effective if you use it efficiently. These programs allow much more functionality than the standard datebook.
The ability to EASILY add colors, icons, privacy, categories, and links to contacts as well as integrate your todo list these provide an incredibly easy way to manage many aspects of life in one program. These have helped me to organie both my home and business life. The integrated todos and floating events in Datebk5 make it impossible to forget what needs to get done. It really has changed the way my life is organized. When my wife yells that I forgot something, all I do is tell her she should have put it in my palm! (We use a program called Overview to see each other's schedules and sync on the same computer).
Docs To Go right now. But I am intrigued by all the comments on DateBook5. Here's my question -- if I try it and don't like it, is removing it a problem? It looks like it pretty much takes over the datebook of the Clie. Will all the data revert to something usable on the Palm desktop and the Clie if I remove datebook5?
Same question for Agendus.
Thanks!

I'd say DocsToGo5,with a little touch of X-Master and some hacks!Hacks like Fonthack123 would spice it up to make it look like a Tungsten-T.Really cool

Argh-
You should be able to remove it without a problem. I know that it adds some code to the entries that can be seen in the regular datebook, but you only will need to fix the entries that you made/changed in datebk4
As for my favorite program, it would have to be X-master with easylaunch. It's the best shortcut program out there, and the cheapest too (IT'S FREE)

Uhm... I'd say DateBk5, but a lotta people already did... same thing for DocsToGo. So I'll say ShadowPlan, really a good outliner!

If you're using uninstall hack, just make sure you don't delete the default datebook preference as well. Accidentaly did that some time ago, thinking datebook is part of dtbk5 resulting in all my appointments gone in a blink. Luckily after a couple of hot-synched, everything went back to normal. :p

I personally can recommend the combination datebk and shadowplan - using both daily. Big congrats to both developers.
- shadowplan for managing tasks, appointments, others ppl tasks and mainly for info-input+overview
- datebk mainly for info-output, overview and partly for appointment-input
BUT, there are lots of other usefull apps - best thing might be to test some apps recommended at this forum, test them and decide on your personal preference. Take your time for this...

To me, PalmReader is my single most important add-on. Reading e-books is my PDA's main function (that is, since I became a stay-at-home-mom).
That being said, Datebk5 runs my life. I've got 3 kids and they all do a lot of stuff (AAU basketball, soccer, church, piano lessons, swimming lessons, etc. etc.) I've even got the kids trained to the alarms, lol, when they hear 'Hedwig's Theme' from Harry Potter, they know the bus will arrive to take them to school in 5 minutes.
And you can count me in the category of Addressbook being the only app I've not 'replaced'. I've not found any that will allow you to use pictures with the address. . . and I like that option. It's great for coaches, teachers, etc. ;)

I'm so much in the minority here apparently, because I find the internal calendar app sufficient. My Must-Have is Plucker with JPluck. It's really nice being able to sync up CNN, BBC, and a bunch of other news and web sites (including lots of Palm ones), grab the unit and go.

so far, the address book is the only one that I haven't replaced, but I'm looking for something just like the built in one, but with support for hires+. I replaced the datebook with datebk5, the to-do list with 4.0 student mainly (although I still use the built-in list sometimes), and the memo pad with wordsmith. I like iambic mail, and I'm using the demo right now, but I'm not sure if I should buy it or not. I don't use mail all that much, so I might just keep re-installing the demo for a while:D .

Datebk 5
I have used Agendus and Datebk 5 and always come back to the master. Harder to learn but once you know how to use it there is no comparison. I also use dbmemo and dbaddr that comes with it for easy address and memo look ups.
Next is Docs to Go (Sheet to Go) and (Smartlist To Go). Wordsmith for word processing and you are good to go.
