Andru394,
Sony was the first company to come up with a collapsible Virtual Graffiti (VG) Screen. There are 2 components to this. The main 'writing' area is the Virtual Graffiti area and the 2nd part is a Status Bar (SB) area. Most of the time the SB has things like the time, an up/down to maximize or minimize the VG, Home/Menu/Search buttons WiFi, Memory-Stick (MS) or CF Card icons on it. Sony created this VG to give handhelds more real-estate on a handheld. Prior to VGs/SBs a handheld could only show 320x320 pixels With a VG and SB turned 'off' or minimized you could now have a 320x480 display.
Finally Palm/PalmOne came up with their own version of a VG/SB. It is called a Dynamic Input Area (DIA). This is PalmOne's version of a Virtual Graffiti screen. Some of the advantages of PalmOne's DIA is you can have your handheld in Portrait mode (320x480) or in landscape mode (480x320).
In Sony Terms... the VG and the SB are 'different' and kinda independent of one another (yet working together). In the PalmOne world the DIA is both the VG and SB fused together into one (I believe). If I'm wrong about this I'm sure someone can correct my error.
I hope that helps you out some. If you have a handheld such as a PalmOne T3 you have a DIA. If you have a Sony Clie (such as a nx/nz/th series) handheld then you would have a VG & SB.
:)
just a guess at DIA but: Dynamic Input Area??
SB - Status Bar : the bar of icons at the bottom of your screen
VG - Virtual Graffiti : The Graffiti area that you write on, which isn't hardware on some newer devices therefore 'virtual'
[that was fast and cheap :: $5 please ;)]
