I have owned my UX-50 for almost a year and i use it almost everyday. After half of the day today, i turned it on and the screen was completely messed up. One of the people at the tech department at school said it was some sort of hardware problem because i may have dropped it. I didn't drop it so i am still not very sure what to do? In detail, the clie starts once it has been reset, but the grafitti area is grayish, with some lines through it. After a bit, the screen may fade away, but it changes from time to time. The other part of the screen goes lightish blue to regular blue or the regular screen. The volume still works, you can access the programs, but the view isn't complete, and if you click on what would have been the "home button", you get to the launcher view. I have also tried a hard reset. Tell me if the screen is broken or if it is really a hardware error that you may be able to fix. I have no clue what is going on, so can you please help me get rid of the gray area and the rest of the screen!!

Ohhh!  Sounds like you will have to send it to Sony for repairs. :( :( I have read a lot of post here and you are the first that I heard of with that kind of screen problem. But of course, I don't know anything about any screen, maybe others can help. Good luck!
Have you installed something new?
Backup everything and perform a hard reset. Try and see if the screen acts normal after a hard reset. Then you can assume that it is the recent program that you installed, if you did. :o :o

well, i guess i am going to have to send it back in, but i have realized that after i reset it, almost the entire screen except for the graffiti area are visible, but eventually it dies down and is all white gray and blue with vertical and horizontal lines going through it. Should i try to take it apart and look to fix something, or should i leave it to the pros at Sony?? Any idea on the price of this type of fixing?

From what I remember from other post, between 175-250 US dollars including labor if Sony's warranty will not cover it. Otherwise, it is free for those within the 1 year warranty.

Hello Sharkie,
I will soon have my TH55. Now I can try most of your applications. Right now, I only have SharkROM for my UX50. You did a very good job! Excellent.

Be very careful once you have the screws out. Both halves are and remain connected by two very thin wires that do not disconnect. Open the halves very slowly.

Just unplug the battery for about a minute and then plug it back in. Be careful because there isn't a lot of room to work in.

well, unfortunately i have to tell you something, i wrote this as i unplugged the battery from my clie. After i re-plugged it in, im sorry to say, the screen did the same thing. Today i am going to sony to see if they can fix it, but if i get any info from the people at sony, i will tell you.

I just came back from Sony and they told me that it was a screen problem and that I will have to send it to California. They gave me this number: (800) 488-SONY
7669
They said that they will replace the screen or something, I will let you know what happens as soon as possible.
