Hi All, I have just purchased a 1GB SD card for using with my T3 (thanks to those that said it would work). All looked OK until I tried to put any data on it using a card reader on my PC. Basically it says the card needs formatting but will only do it to 480MB - even then it bombs half way through.
If I put the card in my T3 it does format properly and I can add data (and hotsync to it).
The trouble is I want to load a lot of MP3's and I need the card to be readable by my PC via a card reader for both ease and speed. Anyone got any ideas why it doesn't get recognised?

I have tried using Windows Media player with Pocket tunes, this works but the sync cable is attached to my work PC and all my MP3's are on a private PC. I just don't get it, my old 256 MB card works fine.

Help !

Sounds like you need to swap that puppy out with another one from your distributor.

No, it looks that you'll need a new card reader, or if the manufacturer cares, get a new firmware for it. If the card works fine in the T3, there's no reason to exchange the card.

Is it a highspeed card? I know this sounds funny, but some computers have problems accessing highspeed cards. Also, older readers have the same problem. You should look up cardexport at softick.com. It lets you use the handheld as a disk drive with an sd card. My clie has this functionality built in, and it is definitely 10x faster than syncing data or using the media converter to transfer data.

For filling an 1GB card with data, I wouldn't recommend Card Export. An USB 2.0 card reader is definitely a must for cards of those sizes.

Thanks All. I have sorted the problem although in honesty not sure how. The card was an Ebay buy (new) and I new it was a slight risk. When it arrived I noticed it was about half the thickness of my other cards.
After much messing about I THINK the reason was that the contacts on the card were not quite touching inside the card reader, it appears to be OK now.

Given the cost (£54) and the fact that now it is loaded it is working well, I have no problem but others may feel differently. The make is 'Kingmax'.

I just bought a Kingmax as well for $74 from Newegg. So far it seems the write speeds are quite slow, but the read speed is wicked fast. I suppose all-in-all I'm pretty happy with it, especially considering the price. This card definitely is thinner than other SD cards, and does take a bit of getting used to.
