Sprint is selling the Treo 650 for $599! No wonder PalmOne made the T5 so underwhelming. They wanted everyone to buy the six hundred dollar smartphone instead.

That's the list price of three T|E's or the discounted price of two T3's.I believe the price hike is indicative of the cell phone industry. All cell phones and smart phones are much higher than they should be unless you purchase a calling plan. For some magical reason, the price drops dramatically if you commit one to two years under a service contract. Cha-ching!

Also looks like Sprint is going to cripple the BT on the 650 so you cannot use it as a modem for you're PC

It still has the making of a blockbuster, let's just hope that PalmOne will not take the Treo's success as a sign there's no interest in PDAs and discontinue them altogether. PalmOne execs think like that, what with their reasoning that the TE sells so that they have to make their next high-end dvice in that image. Furthermore, Ed Colligan, is from the Treo side of the merger, so he would like to see Treo prosper more than the Tungsten line...

That is my concern, and it is a self-fulfilling prophecy which P1's executives are making happen. They did a decent job of cramming some features into the new smart phone, but then starved the new PDA. The main argument for having PDAs is that the absence of the telephone features allows the vendor to cram more powerful PDA functions into the same form factor, that is into the PDA as compared to the cell phone. Yet P1 put the camera into the cell phone, not the PDA!

Even leaving out telephone functions out of it, the phone has more functions than the PDA! The T5 must be mostly an empty case compared to the Treo 650. It's like watching a rigged fight.
