I picked up Simpli Write as a grafiti alternative based on the review in Handheld Computing.

But after installing it and selecting the checkbox for "Activate"... Nothing happens..?

Anyone played with this, I am wondering if I am missing somehting painfully logical, or if this just don't work on the NZ.?

I went for Fitaly as an alternative and haven't looked back since.

LITTLESIX,
is FITALY faster (in your opinion) than graffiti?
If it is, why not just set the Virtual Graffiti to Keyboard mode for free and type there?

Rob - TONS Faster.

The Fitaly keyboard is laid out totally different than a standard keyboard. I'm here to tell you - it DOES have a learning curve. The software comes with practice drills and it does clock your data input. Right now I'm up to 40 words per minute. Combining this with something like TextPlus, I can do a lengthy email without breaking a sweat.

I tried it the first time and I totally hated it (because I didn't spend enough time in it.) It got easier with more time, and I doubt that I'll take it off my Clie'.

Pick it up and try it. They'll give you two 10 day periods as trial before it shuts down.

Littlesix,

One more thing to try. (smile)

Guess I miss a little bit the natural handwriting recognition on the Newton and on the WinCE devices by Paragraph.

Actually strange that they never came out with it for the Palm OS platform.

LITTLESIX,
I see your point in totally hating the product right off the bat. I am getting faster, although I have not seen 40 words per minute yet. I see how it can be faster [than graffiti] by using 'slides' and all their shortcuts. It might take a little more practice, but we'll see in 9 days if it's worth buying for me. Thanks for the suggestion.

I use message ease. It has a lot of the special characters and you can write quite fast with it. The sliding technique takes a little to get used to (I got a lot of wrong letters when I started), but now I can write about 4-5 times faster with it than graffiti.

LittleSix,

I see there is a VitalyStamp and a VitalyVirtual out there. Am I to assume you are using the VitalyVirutal?

Sorry I missed these posts. I unfortunately allowed myself to get sucked into the ruckus in the other threads

Yes, I use Fitaly Virtual

Now it's MY turn for a question:

WHAT is the purpose of the slides? (I have the version prior to the current one out.)

I have a free upgrade to the newest version. Read the documentation over and over and over. What is the purpose of the slides? Fair Warning: Dumb it down for me. I've read the documentation for a week, and here I sit. Clueless - lol.

I'll upgrade to it in a minute if I can figure out whether or not the slides will serve me any benefit.

Rob - I'll tell you truthfully that 10 days might not be enough time and fortunately the developers are aware of that. In their documentation is instructions for deleting and reloading it for another 10 days. My first 10 day stint with it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. For me - that's not enough time.

LITTLESIX,

Playing around with Fitaly, I have come to the following conclusion: It's not very good for taking notes. I seem to be fast at times and at other times, not. I am debating whether I should remove the app from the NZ, but I feel I should keep playing for the full 10 day trial. I just don't see the value in it if I have to look at the keyboard to type; I am used to looking at the area I am inputting text, while Graffiti-ing.

I believe the slides are for entering other versions of available text from the keyboard. For instance, I found that if you slide up over a letter, you'll enter a capital version of that letter or (if accents are enabled) you'll enter an accent mark over a vowel that uses said accent. Also, if you make the 10-key only display numbers, then you'd slide over the number to access the symbols.

Does that make sense?

Just for the record... I hate Fitaly... LOLOLOL.... very difficult. I can type in Graffiti it seems faster... well Who knows...... after a 1/2 hour... I only can get about 16wpm ... which is way less than my graffiti skills... Very funky keyboard.

I found issues... with the keyboard on the NZ. Well... at least for me. I installed it.. re-did the digitizer.. and even though I click in the middle of the letter.. sometimes it shows the letter above it. Anyone experience this?

Well.. Yeah...

BUT the original question were... HAVE ANYONE managed to get simpli write to work on a NZ. (GRIN) and if so.. HOW.

- Kicking it with my NZ in the Venetian in Vegas, they have LAN in the room, but I had to go and purchase a WLAN access point at Frys. Oh Well, it was worth it. -

If you read the review, you'll find that it won't work with OS5.

Duh.... I hate when I do that.. I read (or thought I did) the review in handheld computing...
