I've just installed these programs, hence the lower confidence levels which may go up over time.
Mobipocket 4.8, build 413 www.mobipocket.com - Low-Medium (runs 320x480...nice!)
Epocrates Rx 7.0 www.epocrates.com - Low-Medium
iSilo 3.35 www.isilo.com - Low (but the pop up menu in the lower left corner disappears periodically; runs 320x320)
Lance, how about of list of programs that we know DON'T work at this time? It would save others same grief until those programs are updated.
i.e. BBVFS 2.15 www.bluenomad.com I get a fatal error

Hmm, little confused on the confidence levels,[compatibility levels?], what I think the basic question to know as a T3/OS 5.2.1 user considering upgrading is:
1. Does the software work like it did on the T3? and what version.
For example pTunes 3.04 would have to answer No. to the above question but pTunes 3.05 is a Yes, Other No's would be Built in Calendar app, BackupMan, ShadowPlan, DateBk5 etc.....
Cool.. "Need" level works for me, thx...
Lance

The confidence levels have to do with the amount of testing for the software. Someone might load and use the application for five to ten minures, while others might have used the software for hours over the past week. Thus, a 'High' confidence level should be representative of someone who relies on this application a lot and knows the application has been extently tested. On the other hand, a 'Low' confidence level should be representative of someone who used the software for fifteen or twenty minutes and did not run into any problems just testing the basic functionality.
As iPalm alluded to, the confidence level should go up over time, and I will update the confidence levels as appropriate.
I hope this clarifies the confidence levels and my intentions.
Thank you,
Lance

Lance your going above and beyond as usual!!! Thanks!..
Another thing to note if possible is what the latest version of the software that is listed is released for example iSilo is currently @ 4.15 (perhaps a type above?)

No, not a typo. I haven't upgraded to iSilo 4.15 yet, so I can't speak for that version.

:-)I agree, but since someone took the time to test it, I feel obliged to post it. When someone takes the time to test newer versions, I will update the list accordingly. In addition, some upgrades cost money, so there may be some users not willing to pay more money for features they do not need.
In the future, I will try to weed out the older software where updates to the latest version are free.

MMPlayer 0.2.13 - The bookmark feature does not work for videos on an external card. It works on the internal card. This means you have no way to continue where you left off. I'm guessing this is caused by having two cards (one internal) in the T5 and the software doesn't handle it.

I would like to know if anyone knows if Handstory 2.3 (http://www.handstory.com/product/index.html) and Thought Manager (http://www.handshigh.com/html/thoughtmanager.html) works on the T5? I consider these two apps important in my daily use, really appreciate it if anyone can confirm about this. Thanks again.

In regards to the T3 files AppSlipRotate.PRC and StatusBarLib.PRC, I discovered that one program I installed on my T5 loaded these files, and after a hard reset (required by the T5 Updater), these files were then HotSynced back into the T5, causing the virtual graffiti area to vanish as well as the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. It took me a while to determine that one or both of those files were to blame. I'm not sure which app installed those two. I found these two in the hotsync backup folder, deleted them, and everything is back to normal. You might want to check your backup folder to see if these are lurking in it.

I've tested the following, and they work. I hope there's no duplication...
Software name, version, (Confidence). Comments. Web page.
LifeBalance, 3.2.5, (Need) Will NOT work. Crashes requiring reset. Llamagraphics have a patch available by email (see below).
http://www.llamagraphics.com/LB/LifeBalanceTop.html
LifeBalance, 3.2.61d, (Medium). Version sent from Llamagraphics (they will email to any who request it), but is still a beta of their next release. No obvious bugs, but sometimes very slow because of the "debug processes" (something the good folk at Llamagrahics bring to your attention when they send it).

Splash Shopper, 2.6a, (Low-Medium). It works fine, but not all screens display 320x480. Lists will, but edits won't.
Splash Money, 3.02, (Low-Medium). It works fine, but not all screens display 320x480. Lists will, but edits won't.
Splash ID, 3.12, (Medium). Seems to work fine except for opening password screen which will only operate 320x320.

I've been working with Jason at jkware.com, the developer of CardBackup, version 2.1b of CardBackup), but it generates errors backing up large databases to the external SD card. He said in an email to me, "It appears as though the T5 has some issues. I have another user that is having similiar issues. I'll be trying to reproduce them here and see what happens. My apologies for the problems. We'll see what we can do to get them fixed."
He is working on it, but the issue might be a T5 system bug.

1. A trusted correspondent tells me that the following apps are running fine on his T5:
Bonsai 3.3.1
Epocrates Pro
PEPID
2. And I just got this email from ZZTechs:
"ZLauncher v4.30 works with your T5."

ZLauncher 4.3 does work on the T5, but what I can't get it to do is recognize my SD card, in order that I can move files on to it with ZLauncher.
When I tap and hold an application and select Move To Card, the only card it offers is the internal drive. If you actually move an app there, it causes a fatal error and I have to do a soft reset. The only way to get out of the problem is to delete the moved program with Uninstall Manager.
I'd be interested to see if anyone else is getting this. The Card Info app on the T5 recognises that there are two different cards, and if I exit from ZLauncher I can access and see the SD card perfectly well.

I've searched and can't find the answer to this question: What kinds of problems are seen with Shadow Plan 4 on the T5? In the Shadow support newsgroup the developer doesn't seem too interested in "reverse engineering" his program to fix the issues caused by P1's OS, so inquiring minds want to know how severe the problems are.
BTW, I do want to say that the developer's been incredibly supportive and responsive in the past, so I think this simply reflects his frustration with P1 and not an unwillingness to continually improve his great program which I've been running on my TC for years. I can't migrate completely to another PDA unless I know that Shadow will run properly!

I have not got Lexidrugs, PEPID or Sanford Guide running yet on my T5. Part of that is due to the change in Device ID, requiring answers from Customer Support, but part might be due to changes in the T5's software. I'm still working on all 3, since they are my key references at work.
PEPID needs a fancy workaround that unhooks HotSync's timeout, for example. PEPID is offering T5 users access to their online version while they work on the problem.

1. I could open and view databases.
2. Then I got a Fatal Exception closing out a complex database that had been giving me trouble before. I did a soft reset by tapping the Reset virtual button.
3. I opened a basic flatfile database on the handheld, added a test record, closed HB, did a HotSync, and the record appeared in the desktop side fine.
4. I then deleted that record on the handheld, but when I try to close that database I keep getting a Fatal Exception when I press Home, requiring a soft rest triggered by pressing Reset on the screen. HB keeps opening with that database open. I tried a warm reset/soft reset sequence, which worked. I was then able to close that database.

Jim,
I use HanDBase 3.0K2 for tracking patients and procedures (in Interven. Rad.) I do - the main DB has 43 fields and it uses 4 linked databases, numerous popup lists, etc (i.e., I consider it to be a complex DB). I tried your steps 3 and 4 above, but I was unable to reproduce the problem. HanDBase has been rock solid on my T5 so far.

Wha's the status of Tealscript? Gekko, says it causes fatal errors on hotsync, anyone can confirm that. This app is a must for G1 lovers....
I have been using this application (V3.52, http://www.tealpoint.com/softscrp.htm) and had not noticed any issues, until I saw this posting. I do get a number of fatal errors when I am trying to hotsync large files. How do you know it is Tealscript?
I have had numerous problems with this software and fatal exceptions. Has anyone else installed it from the installation CD? Any issues?

According to Gekko, it happens on every hotsync when Tealscript is globally-enabled. If its not globally-enabled, even if Tealscript is in the handheld, nothing wrong happens on hotsync.

LexiDrugs works on the T5. I used the demo all last night during a shift. To unlock the demo if previous subscribers are transferring to the T5 from another device, the subscriber has to phone or email Lexi-Comp's Tech Support to provide the new DeviceID, and then they will provide a new License Key. I found the procedure difficult to obtain from their website, but direct contact from their support folks fixed me up promptly.

Breakout works fine, but if you see white spots and bizarre blocked areas on game screens, then that means the program has detected that the game is running on a different device, not matching the original registration. I went to www.kickoo.com and used their webforms to change the device ID from the T2 to the T5, which normalized the screens again. Interesting way to semi-cripple software: you can still play the game, but it is bizarre and difficult. I discovered the reason searching their support discussion forums.

Under the Options>Preferences menu choosing anything other the general option freezes the program and it closes. No soft reset necessary. The program can be reopened right away and will function normally. However, while editing a transaction, choosing "payee" or "amt" will cause the sys 0505 error message and a soft reset is required.

I've been using the latest pre-release version of Datebook 5 for a few days now and it seems reasonably well-behaved. However, since it is pre-release software, I would leave the confidence rating on Lance's list at "medium" for now.
Datebook 5 v5.4a-p1
www.datebk5.com
confidence=medium
Two notes:
1) An apparent oddity of this Datebook 5 on my T5 is that if I shut off the display during the first 30 seconds after an alarm starts to sound, the display turns itself back on at the 30 second mark. Harmless, but a little startling.
2) One of the features of Datebook 5 that seemed to continue to work on the T5 when I first installed it (v5.1b-s7) was a setup that occurred during the initial launch of the software after install - Datebook 5 asks if you want to have it take over hardware button 1. I always say "yes" to this feature.
On previous devices, of course, one could go to PalmOs Prefs > Buttons and set it that way anyway. On the T5, the only allowed settings for hardware button one are now "applications" or "favorites". My initial exposure to the T5 with Datebk 5 showed me that this old feature managed to reset hardware button one as it always did. How pleased I was! BTW, with the T5 set this way, the PalmOS Prefs > Buttons for hardware button one shows "-unselected-". Heh.
When I UPGRADED from Datebk 5 v5.1b-s7 to v5.4a-p1, this button setting stayed intact - that is, hardware button one still launched Datebk 5. Hooray.
Later after another in a series of hard resets as I tested various bits of very crufty software, I did a clean install of Datebk 5 v5.4a-p1 onto my T5 which only had my 4 saved PIM databases on it. I answered "yes", as always, to the ability to launch Datebk 5 from hardware button one. In this case, however, with the clean install of only the latest pre-release, the button setting did NOT stick. I was disappointed. However, I deleted Datebk 5 v5.4a-p1, installed v5.1b-s7, got the button working again, then upgraded back to v5.4a-p1, with the button setting intact once again.
I know I'm ****ed if anyone ever "helps" me by reseting that button (well, until I deinstall and reinstall and upgrade again, that is), but I thought people here might be amused or pleased to know that you CAN get that setting to work on the T5 if you're persistent (or stubborn).
BTW I have just this evening submitted a support request to Pimlico Software for the second item.

Lance,
I posted a similar question on a separate thread, but this may be the more appropriate place. I noticed Handstory is on the Green List & seems to be recommended by everyone, but I'm having major problems with it.
I've tried unsuccessfully to install Handstory on my T5 (both 2.3 & 3.1). I've always used AvantGo, so I have no experience with the software.
Specifically, I'm getting fatal resets on my T5 and "Handstory converter has encountered errors...must shut down" on my PC (even when adding a "canned" web clip from their web page).
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I think that it is a great idea and initiative on your part to keep this running list of software compability with the T5. I would like to suggest that a list of identified bugs in the T5 native software also be included in the hope that someone in P1 is paying attention. I know of 2 bugs:
1) SMS and Difficulty in Retrieving Messages - always get "No new messages". I believe this is also true in the T3.
2) Global find freezes after 8 contacts if there are 9 or more recurrences in contacs. See http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69482&highlight=global+search

List for T5 Owners to Test
Handstory 2.3: While it appears to be on the Green Light List, it appears to be causing other people some problems. Can anyone else comment on their experience? Thanks!
I have been using Handstory 2.3 on my T5 for over a week now. I'd say its behaving normally as it would on my previous TT. I dont notice any problem at all accept that it only work on 320x320.
Handstory ver 3.1 (http://www.namo.com/products/handstory/features/palm/palm3.1.html) in the other hand is very unstable on my T5. Soft resets almost everytime i launch it. Looks like it has problems with the new memory arrangement (internal/external SD), not to mention very slow. I must say though that it does has a nice new interface, support 320x480 - probably designed spesifically for the T3. I wouldn't mind upgrading though once they make it work on the T5.
Hope this is useful to those who needs to know..

You were right, adding a memo directly from Handstory (PC) interface will wipe out all curent memos. I'm surprise because i've been using HS since 2002 and didnt know about this! I guess its because its not my habit to add memos (or anything) directly from Handstory PC interface. In my case i always use Agendus for Windows to add memos, contacts etc. I mainly use HS just for clips and quickly convert any onscreen text to palm doc files. FYI, the same bug is still there in version 3.1. Just tried it just now.
I can't migrate completely to another PDA unless I know that Shadow will run properly!
bump!! I would like to know too!!

I got tired of waiting for a response, so I went ahead and tried it myself. Seems to work OK as a self-contained program, but experienced lockups whenever deleting any item with a link to the Task PIM, requiring a soft reset. Didn't try with links to the other PIM applications. I sure hope the developer will come up with a fix soon - his comments on the Yahoo board are not very encouraging. Anybody have more recent information on this?
Meanwhile, the developers of Bonsai have updated their application to be T5 compatible...

As far as Documents To Go Total Office goes, all the components have been updated (Documents To Go, SmartList To Go, and Beyond Contacts), but I do not know how the Total Office is packaged. Is it one install?
Feel free to respond on the thread pertaining to the software list here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71634).
Thanks,
Lance
Yes, I see that date now at the bottom. Sorry, kind of new here and just learning the ropes.
It appears that Docstogo Office (http://http://www.dataviz.com/products/datavizoffice/index.html) is a single package containing Premium, Beyond Contacts and Smartlist. I'm not sure if they just bundle all the individual ones together, or it's a single install. I'm hesitant to install if it's going to cause problems. I suppose I could email Dataviz.
thanks,
david..

ViaMichelin Maps and Route Planning v1.0: medium-high once you get it running - you have to use the Files application to rename or create a folder called VMCarto_Maps on Internal memory or SD card to put your maps in. Full hi-res screen, works well. GPS a bit slow to connect via Bluetooth, and woe betide you if you turn Bluetooth off before disabling it first in Maps and Route Planning! Unless you enjoy hard resets, don't follow their advice to install FileZ T3 support.
Documents to Go Premium Ver 7.002 build 829: medium-high. Full hi-res screen
eReader from PalmOne CD v.2.5.4f: medium. Full hi-res screen.
FileZ 6.4: medium, but *don't* install the T3 support. I'm running mine from the SD card.
Plucker v 1.8: medium-high. Don't use Plucker Desktop to install the reader, because it only does v 1.6, which is 320x320. The 1.8 reader is a separate download and does full hi-res.
Resco Viewer V 2.11: medium-high. Well worth the $$. A good graphics viewer, fast, and allows a bit of image adjustment. (brightness/contrast/gamma). Full hi-res screen.
HandMap 4.7: low-medium. Bit of a puzzle - dragging the map north-west caused total collapse, and various errors occurred at other times as well. The vendor's support was able to reproduce the fault on the emulator, but not consistently. In the light of other comments here, and having removed some possible sources of conflict, I'll try again.
I think some problems are caused by conflicts: something (MobiPocket? EasyCalc 1.22?) messed up Plucker, Documents to Go, and eReader. Go figure.

Still nothing from Penreader, maker of RifleSlugs. They don't answer my emails. I'm going to try again, and hope! The reason the program doesn't work, is that it blanks out the screen and displays nothing. Perhaps there's a workaround, but I've seen none.

I say that only because you cannot download a trial version of the Total Office package. You can only download trial versions of the individual software packages. Thus, when you purchased Total Office, you would probably end up getting the latest versions of Beyond Contacts, Documents To Go, and SmartList To Go.
Anyway, I would still recommend contacting DataViz to be sure.

I tried all sorts of things, but no way could I get Handmap 4.7 to run without crashing out big time.
However, as a stopgap, version 4.5 (but not the Clié version!) runs in colour, but no hi-res. Better than nothing, but not good enough for something I've paid for!
I have notified the developers of the problem, but no solution yet.
I'd rate 4.5 medium at least.

Dataviz has notified me that both Total Office and Passwords Plus are T5 compatible. I suppose you could add this to the software list.
I ordered and downloaded the Total Office package and I did have to download all the separate packages. You were correct that it appears to be the latest versions of the individual packages.
Final question. Is Chapura's Pocketmirror Key Suite compatible, and a worthwhile conduit upgrade?

thanks again,
david..There are several options available to synchronize your data with Outlook. You have purchased one of them, Beyond Contacts. Key Suite is another option and is a competitor for Beyond Contacts. The standard and professional versions of PocketMirror synchronize Outlook data with the built-in PIM applications on the Palm device. If you use the conduits provided with the Palm on the installation CD, it also synchronizes the data in Outlook with the built-in PIM applications on the Palm. Beyond Contacts and Key Suite use their own applications and databases. Thus, Agendus and DateBk5 can access the data if you use the bundled software on the installation CD or PocketMirror, but they cannot access the data in Beyond Contacts and/or Key Suite.
I can go into more detail if you like, but I hope this gets the general idea across.

Yikes... It locks up! :( Sorry, didn't test the linking functions earlier. Ever since SP could handle alarms, I stop linking SP items to my tasks or appointments....
I gave Web Pro 3.0.1 a try on the T5 since I really like its bigger font size and Full Screen mode that Blazer 4.0 does not have, but it did not work.
All I got was a screen full of garbage and had to soft reset.
You can buy Web Pro 3.0.1 from

palmOne's web page says:
Palm Web Pro 3.0 is compliant with Palm-branded OS5.x handheld devices. This includes Treo 600, Palm Tungsten E, Palm Tungsten C, Palm Tungsten T, T2, T3 and Palm Zire 71. This software is not compatible with non Palm-branded handheld devices.

LanceMy earlier response may have been a bit misleading. You can use DateBk5 and Agendus with Beyond Contacts and/or KeySuite. You just have to make sure the conduits are enabled to synchronize your Outlook data with your built-in PIM applications. These conduits (if setup to synchronize with Outlook using the software on the T5 installation CD) should be listed as Calendar (Outlook), Contacts (Outlook), Notes (Outlook), and Tasks (Outlook). This will allow DateBk5 and Agendus to access the data. Currently, I do not think Agendus if fully compaible with the T5.
Even though you can use Beyond Contacts and DateBk5, I do want to remind you that the data is still separate. Thus, you may have to perform two HotSyncs to get the data updated everywhere. For example, you make a calendar update to DateBk5. This will not be seen in Beyond Contacts until the Calendar (Outlook conduit) updates Outlook. Then Outlook has to transfer the information to Beyond Contacts. Depending on the HotSync order of the conduits, this might take two HotSyncs.
Anyway, I hope this helps. Thank you, and I apologize for any confusion.
Best regards,
Lance

MobileDB v4.1.4 (www.handmark.com) is a REDLIGHT.
It begins OK but hangs when you try to load a database from the internal "card" or when doing any action that requires moving a database from external to internal memory (which MobileDB seems to want to do often). I suspect it is unable to deal with 2 external memory options.

Llamagraphics have just released a new beta update for T5 users of Life Balance. New version is: Life Balance 3.2.6d2. You still need to request it by email (as it is a beta) but it is significantly faster than the previous version. It is blindingly fast in fact.

Dokusha is an English-Japanese dictionary and kanji learning tool. (website here (http://www.geocities.com/andrew_brault/dokusha/)).
It has been designed for older Palms and should work fine, but it has 6 databases of ~700K each and the new memory architecture might create problems.

I see that you moved TealScript 3.52 from the red to green list. I am an avid user and have been for some time, but can confirm that this application does cause crashes during HS when enabled globally. The application does work fine during day-to-day use.
From what I have been able to research there is an issue with the stack memory and applications that work in the background. This is one of them.

Heres a bit of info about KP 3.0 from the email I received this morning.
The new Kinoma Producer 3 can create MPEG-4 and AAC output for Palm OS 5 based handhelds running Kinoma Player 3 EX. MPEG-4 has very high visual quality, compared to the Kinoma 2 movies you are now making. AAC audio sounds incredible and takes up far less space.
You will find dozens of refinements along with powerful new import capabilities in your copy of Kinoma Producer 3. To take advantage of these new output formats, Kinoma is also releasing Kinoma Player 3 and Kinoma Player 3 EX.
Kinoma Player 3 EX extends your ability to playback even more media types. You can now play the best quality MPEG-4 and H.263 video, new audio playback of unprotected iTunes AAC songs, some QuickTime files, and the ability to view JPEG images directly. In the next few days we will be updating the Kinoma web site with details about these new products.

I believe I have possibly pinpointed the source of Tealscript inconsistent crashing on the T5 platform. (On various forums there seems to be a 50/50 split on those having problems and those not having problems)
If preferences are set to:
1) globally enabled
2) write anywhere completely off (all settings)
3) "Disable system auto-shift" preference checked
4) Multi Stroke unchecked
5) alternate strokes checked
6) easy caps off
Then you'll get frequent crashes when entering text via the DIA.
The crashes stop if youI uncheck "Disable system auto-shift" preferences.
The crash are either: None Message "fatal exceptions" -or- Emul68kMain.c Line:403 illegal instruction 000c at address 008c482c.

Pocket Mirror XT seems to work ok with one exception....
If used with something like autosync or aftersync; you may find the legacy PIMs appear empty after the sync. This appears to be a problem with autosync and aftersync launching the apps before the datamangler patch can replicate the changes to the legacy pims.
I haven't tested the Palm Conduits to see if they have a similar issue.
Using the Older Pocket Mirror Pro sync correctly and side steps this problem.

Here is an exchange which I thought should be reproduced under this thread as it deals with compatibility issues.
For some reason, now that I have my T5 working great (or so I thought), I am getting a Fatal Alert after the "Cleaning Up" screen following a HotSync. Note that the HotSync on the Desktop completes fine without any errors!
The error message is consistently the following:
"Emul68KMain.c, Line:403, illegal instruction 7320 at address 00720696"
Any ideas on what to do here? Am I struck doing a hard reset and possibly having to re-load all 3rd party software?
Any other ideas would be very helpful.
I had the same problem on my T5. Thought I had everything working smooth and then boom! The same Fatal Alert AFTER Hot Sync. Right after the "cleaning up". After much trial and error, I think this has solved the problem. When I bought my T5 I bought the keyboard also. I also purchased ClipPro quite some time back. What solved my problem is disabling anything that might be running on my T5 during a hot sync. I disabled the Keyboard driver and also disabled ClipPro. I then did another hot sync and everything seems fine again. I would recommend that you disable anything that might be "enabled" during a hot sync. This seems to give the T5 a fit. Anyway it seems to be working for now. The T5 seems to have a lot of little quirks. You have to get used to them and try to work around them. I have found that alot of the software they say "works" really doesn't. It will install fine, but once you actually use the program you start to have problems. I hope this helps you, let me know if it works. Thanks, Cindy.
Pippadi, you were soooooo right. Problem was, however, two-fold. First ClipPro 2.0 does create a problem during the HotSync on the T5. Something to do with the "delete" feature, I think but not sure.
In addition, though, what got everything started was that I deleted a contact entry on the desktop. I have Contacts 5 v. 5.34 running on my T5. Seems that there is a problem with deleting contact entries. The program seems to work fine on the T5 but then if you try to delete an entry, the T5 freezes up. The problem recurs when you try to HotSync after deleting an entry on the Desktop. Will stick to the built-in application for contacts for now until PDA Performance releases a new version.
Glad that is over..

Receiveit 3.0 CAN't run on T5, it cause reset.....and after reset you can't go to palm application... To solve this problem, reset again & hold "up" button when logo palm appear until you go to palm prefs screen

why do you need receiveit on the T5 - the on-board flash presumably takes any file type!!

Ok, is that the best kept secret of the T5 to-date or what! That calculator looks just like the old Parens one which got discontinued when PowerOne bought the software developer out of the market. In fact, I think they may have hired him!
Why is this not publicised anywhere?

Yes, the on-board flash presumably takes any file type if you put the file from PC. But if you received files from BT or Irda from handheld or cellular phone it still say "data received Unknown format".

I had a chance to quickly test Dokusha 1.5 at a retail store. Testing has not been thorough due to time constraints, but still I could verify most of its functionality.
I would say it works fine, a lot faster than on a T|T as expected. Translation from English to Japanese is not instantaneous yet, but a lot more usable. This test is interesting because Dokusha has 5 700K databases to browse and the flash memory architecture doesn't seem to cause any major hiccup. No crash either.
Only problem I've noticed. The application buttons cannot be used as shortcuts to some functionalities anymore. They just invoke the assigned program and cause Dokusha to exit. Some games may have the same problem.
Have no idea whether there's a workaround in the device settings.
The developer website does still exist, it just depends on geocity to work ...
BTW as a side note, installing applications from the SD card (by FileZ) works smoothly, in case anyone wants to try his favorite application in the nearest shop :D

PEPID: It works, with two main provisos:
1. Installation on the T5 is a problem, but PEPID tech support is very helpful and will get a T5 owner running.
2. Always start PEPID after re-expanding the Virtual Graffiti area on the T5, otherwise the display will munge when scrolling pages, and the PEPID icon taskbar will disapper. PEPID is working hard on getting PEPID configured properly for the T5.

I just received release 2.1, recompiled this AM. This version is stable and runs directly off the T5 expansion card, storing inputed data there. I recommend this one with a medium stability. I was able to do multiple reads and writes with no instabilities. I recommend v. 2.1, not v.2.0

I am using TealScript v. 3.52 on the T5 and am loving it. Feels just like Graffiti 1!
Here is my problem, however. If I select "Enable Globally" then I always get a fatal error after a hotsync. Disengage "Enable Globally" and hotsync works fine. Kind of irritating to have to constantly toggle this option between hotsyncs.
Regarding the previous report of that TealScript does not function well when "System Auto-Shift" is checked, I did not notice any problems.
When using TealScript, though, I recommend that you fully disengage Write Anywhere as this seems to cause some problems in certain applications, i.e. W.A. turning itself on and off. For me, not a big deal as I never use this option anyways.

When hotsyncing to install these the Palm Desktop "quarantined" them in a folder "OS5 incompatible programs".

Are you sure? I get a lot of Emul68kMain.c crashes, especially launching it just after a HotSync. Also try the following: run SlovoED, now you can quit. Try to switch between Graffiti and Keyboard. I have to hide the area, switch, then unhide. Clicking on 'abc' in Graffiti doesn't work until a soft reset.
I mailed Paragon but no reply so far. My version is 4.14T unreg. I won't register it until it works...
I also have issues with TomeRaider 3. When in fullscreen mode, quitting to Applications causes "Window.c,Line:2104,can't change depth when draw state push", then reset. Damn, both dictionaries I want to use have issues :(

Lance,
It has taken me a while to provide you with my experience on T5 software compatibility issues but here they are:
CardBkup v. 4.02 (beta) - Does not work. Causes Fatal Error during backup. I am in contact with JKWare and they are trying to solve the problem. I expect another beta version to be sent to me in due course. Don't understand why you have this program on your Green List.
Contacts 5 - This program is HIGHLY unstable on the T5. The developers at PDA Performance are well aware of the problem and they acknowledge that it is not compatible with the T5. They promise to release an update very soon based on their on-site forum. RED rating.
KeyLink v. 2.0.4 - Works Great! No issues to-date. MEDIUM Rating.
MobiPassword v. 2.01 - This is a beta version recently released to me by the developers. A fully compatible T5 version will be released shortly to registered users. Works great! MEDIUM RATING for now.
PowerOne Finance v. 1.2 - Works great. No problems whatsoever. HIGH RATING.
Slap v. 1.62 - Works pretty good. Only problem is when using the QuickLaunch function. QuickLaunch button must be hit twice to be used properly. The first time it is hit, the applications list appears for a second and then disappears. Hit the QuickLaunch button again and the list appears fine. MEDIUM rating.
TealBackup v. 1.07 - Does not work. Causes fatal error whenever I attempt to do a backup. RED rating.
TealScript v. 3.52 - This application is my favourite as it restores Graffiti 1. It works great on my T5 except that the "Globally Enabled" option should be disengaged prior to every hotsync to avoid a fatal error on clean-up. Not a big deal, however, if you forget as there are no other side effects other than having to perform a soft reset, i.e. hotsync still completes fine. Others have noted a problem and I can only suspect that this is because they have not disengaged the "WriteAnywhere" option on the T5. This is the only option that does not seem to work properly on the T5. I never ever use "WriteAnywhere" so this does not really bother me. I would rate this program a MEDIUM. I was very surprised to see it on Lance's RED list. I strongly disagree based on my own experience.
Woman v. 5.5 - Works great. Although my wife doesn't use it as much as she used to, we have not found any compatibility issues. MEDIUM rating.
GreatDates v. 1.11 - Works well except that when you delete an entry which was exported to the DateBook, you should make sure NOT to opt for deletion of the calendar entry through GreatDates. This auto-delete function does not work. Otherwise, works well. MEDIUM rating.
WordComplete v. 3.03 - Works great except that it should be disengaged when using Blazer as it may cause a fatal error at times. No problems when used with any other application. MEDIUM rating.
WordSleuth v. 1.0 - Works Great. HIGH rating.
All other programs which I have experienced are already on Lance's compatibility list and I have no further comments to add.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I've used the ePocrates software (Epocrates Essentials current version available at www.ePocrates.com) so far on the base Tungsten, the T3 and now lately a new T5. I find I am unable to use the ePocrates Essentials with the T5 and I have tried all the fixes provided me by either Palm or ePocrates. I would have to say that there is a NEED for ePocrates to make modifications to their software if it is to be compatible with the T5. This is interesting, as my new T5 was purchased as a bundle with a year's subscription to ePocrates (which extended my current subscription till 2006) from pdaMD.
I noticed immediately that the T5 had a hotsync delay while undergoing a network sync with the ePocrates server and experienced several fatal errors that were correctable with a soft reset. I tried uninstalling all non-essential "3rd party software" but the resets continued to be a problem. Then after a few days I simply got a reproducible "lost connection" error 6410 with ePocrates. I tried several "fixes." Connecting the USB cable directly to the motherboard, lowering the connection speed, disabling the media conduit (and the other conduits as well, in combination and in total with the exception of the ePocrates conduit), uninstalling and reinstalling ePocrates (I found that once installed and failed, the ePocrates program will no longer install without a 6410 error).
The only fix for me seems to be a complete uninstall of ePocrates from the PC. A hard reset. A reinstall of all my patient care programs to the PC and handheld and a reinstall of the palm desktop. This only fixes the problem for a few hotsyncs then the network hotsync for ePocrates becomes delayed....then fails.
I have contacted both palm and ePocrates and was told by the ePocrates support (finally got a conscientious guy named Jose) that a different T5 might well not reproduce the problem. But I'm not likely to junk this one and purchase another for $399 just to see. Be pleased to hear of a solution as ePocrates is a VERY useful program I've used daily in my surgical practice.

How many applications are you running? Do you consider yourself a power user? I'm starting to wonder why some people are not having backup problems and others are. I know there is a problem with CardBackup because I am in regular contact with the developer and he is working on a fix for something. Maybe there are certain programs which cause the backup to crash...I don't know but I'll try the shareware version for now and see what happens.

Not sure if I'm considered a power user, but I do use my Palm extensively for my calendaring and meetings (which I also do my my lesson planning on), contacts, memos and particularly tasks where I have 10 plus categories for timelines and project management. I use my Palm daily for for reading journals, books and publications, and I have my entire 300+ enterprise network, hardware information and inventory on spreadsheets. I use the Palm and wireless keyboard as the main input device for my Masters Program instead of lugging around my laptop. With the T5, I find it awesome with the larger screen in landscape, large memory capacity (1GB Lexar 32X SD card), and USB host mode. With this and bluetooth, I can move files around with great ease, and print to IR printers with PrintBoy.
In addition to the standard Palm software, I use Datebook5, Docstogo7 premium with Smartlist (I haven't installed the contacts portion yet), Palm wireless keyboard, Passwords Plus, WiFile (for bluetooth file transfers from my home and work networks), Filepoint (don't like it as much as WiFile), Zlauncher, Acrobat reader, eReader, Repligo, PrintBoy, McFile and Cardbackup. I have tried other software, but removed the ones I didn't care for.
In this environment, Cardbackup appears to be working fine. What I'm doing is backing up my Palm's memory to the SD card, then copying my internal drive and SD card (with backed up Palm) to my PC. Would I be able to do a full restore with this backup procedure, or do I have to use software to also backup the internal drive and SD Card? I'm doing this because I do install some apps to the internal drive and SD card to save useable memory in the Palm. I came from an M500 via IIIX and IIIe, so I still have memory phobia, working with MSMount, from those older systems. This seems to work as I tried a number of other backup programs, that are supposed to work with the T5, but just crashed my unit.
Hope this helps.

Would I be able to do a full restore with this backup procedure, or do I have to use software to also backup the internal drive and SD Card?
As I understand it, the internal drive can be backed up to the PC through the PalmOne File Transfer Manager. This is your back-up for the internal drive. The CardBackup software will provide you with a full restore of the ROM memory only. Together, they should provide you with the protection you require.
As to whether or not you are a power user, you definitely have a number of applications on your system. I think you should consider yourself lucky that the CardBackup program is working for you. I would, however, recommend that you upgrade to the full registered version as the ability to perform a "Partial Restore" is critical to retrieving very specific data which may have been lost by some means or another.
I, too, upgraded from the M5x series. I HATE, and I mean HATE, Graffiti 2. If you are like me, you may wish to consider TealSript. A little pricey but try it out for a month and I think you will find that it is well worth it. There is nothing, in my opinion, that compares to Graffiti 1 and TealScript gives you the ability to return to Graffiti 1.

It's been 3 weeks and 5 reinstalls now and I am still unable to get ePocrates Essentials www.epocrates.com to work consistantly on my T5. I reported this in an earlier post. I'm afraid it is going to be a no go unless something is rewritten by either Palm or ePocrates for the T5. I have not heard back from ePocrates support since my last discussion with their support person who admitted I had tried every trick of which he was aware. Does anyone here use Lexi-Drugs from www.lexi.com. I understand it has an update function.
AvantGo V4.0.1 installed but had consistant errors and there was a warning on the website www.avantgo.com indicating it was not compatible. The problem was disturbingly similar to that I experience with ePocrates. I see there is a new updated Version 5 on the website and will give it a try.

Oh well. Although it's true it says on the website www.avantgo.com that the new version 5.7 build 35 will work swimmingly on my T5 I have tried to install it twice now and get:
1. Frequent resets during hotsync (6410 errors)
2. Either a reset trying to open the program (or) I am asked to enter my hotsync password and hotsync, followed by a 6410, followed by another request for a password.
Below is an excerpt from my hotsync log:

As I understand it, the internal drive can be backed up to the PC through the PalmOne File Transfer Manager. This is your back-up for the internal drive.I can confirm this. I had my first Fatal Alert total T5 lockup the other day. I was unable to get the T5 to do anything after a reset: any tap caused the FA screen. But I was able to get into INTERNAL through palmOne File Transfer and copy everything stored in INTERNAL to my PC's hard drive. Then when I did the hard reset, which wiped out the T5's memory (including INTERNAL), I was able to restore everything to INTERNAL manually using pFT again. HotSync automatically restored everything else.
I have since copied everything on INTERNAL to my external SD card too, so that I can restore INTERNAL from the external card, if I encounter a hard reset on the road while away from my desktop or laptop. However I have not figured out how to do a complete manual backup of "RAM" to the external card, and of course I would not be able to get up and running again after a hard reset in that situation until I do.

I have copied the backup folder found in the Palmone (or Palm) folder from my computer to SDcard. Also copied all the PIM databases. I hope I will be able to restore them if I get a hard reset on travel. Haven't put theory into practise yet.
Other way is to use Tealbackup. I managed to back up the RAm to SDcard but I have to do it in blocks i.e. small group of files at a time. This is to avoid the crash that will occur if too much data is copied at one go. Have not tested whether a crash will occur with a full restore.

Hello,
ABGPro Version 2.2 from http://www.stacworks.com/ has worked well on my T5 now for over a week without any errors. It will also transfer to internal memory. Helpful app for those who see arterial blood gas results frequently. Guess it should rate a Medium.
Davis Drug Guide Version 2.1 Build 2.30.34 from http://www.unboundmedicine.com/ also runs without errors and the database runs from the SD card (nice). This program updates itself without a 6410 error. Rate a Medium
Lexi-Infectious Diseases for Palm OS uses the Lexi-Comp Reader Version 2.2.0441008 and updates without errors. It is from https://www.lexi.com. The database .pdb stores in internal memory and the program continues to run now for a week with no problems. I'd rate it a Medium.
Any other apps I have reported as running well on my particular T5 are still going strong.
I just got off the phone with the support person at Palmone. I was asking him about the 6410 errors which plague me if I try to use ePocrates and AvantGo (discussed in my prior posts). He tells me that the 6410 errors are a Microsoft issue (now that's a new one). This may be true. Perhaps all the world's problems are Microsoft related  and he informs me that both ePocrates and AvantGo are incompatible apps that will simply cause crashes on my T5. He is not aware that Palm has given any indication that these are issues for them. AvantGo still as of yesterday was touting compatibility with the T5 but backup requires using file transfer apparently. The ePocrates people don't acknowledge "incompatibility" either. Being the consumer I'd suppose it's going to be my problem and not Bill Gate's problem. :p
I can get most of the functionality of ePocrates from the lexi infectious disease data and the Davis Drug Guide. None of the other people viewing this forum must be using the program as no one else has commented and it's not listed as being either red or green, or worth testing for that matter.

Please reference my above posts. I have been unable to get ePocrates to work syncing with WindowsXP. I got a call from PDA Verticles today in Redmond, WA. Apparently the ePocrates people called them and convinced them they should replace my T5 as they say it should work with ePocrates Essentials.
We shall see......

TimeCopy 1.4

Low
This program is pretty basic. I installed it without error, performed a hotsync so that it could run its course to copy the time from my pc, and then proceeded to run the app on my T5 to make sure that part would work. All seems to be in working order. The stats were presented to me as expected on the screen. I assume with a few other users testing it the confidence level can be bumped up. I'm pretty certain though that it should run fine for others.

Can someone test this one further. I suspect it as the cause of errors after every hotsync. I did a hard reset on my device and left it off this time and didn't get any errors needing a softreset after each hotsync like before.

It's really hard to track crap apps after a hard reset because it removes all the junk files left from other potential unfriendly apps. I finally decided to install Uninstall Manager 2.62 after my 3rd hard reset to monitor (all) the files associated with the apps I install - and in some cases, uninstall. Many T5 hostile app leave behind junk files even when they are deleted, which I've found to be the cause of some of my hotsync and clean up crashes. Now when I remove a buggy app, I'm sure that it's ALL gone and my T5 is fatal error/reset free again.

Uninstall manager was the 1st app I installed both times. I used it on my T E also. A wonderful app. When I 1st installed Time copy it seemed to work fine so I don't know for certain it is the cause because some file(s) could have been damaged from a couple of fatal errors generated by the apps that came with the T5. The reason I suspected it as causing problems is based on the reasons I list the errors requiring soft resets and the fact that leaving it off the device after the hard reset and installing everything else there were no errors at all. I just don't want to chance anything again since it was a pain reinstalling everything. I am hoping there is someone out there that might be in a possision to test it further that may be starting out or restarting out installing stuff. I figure if TimeCopy is causing the errors then if someone were to install it 1st and then got errors every hotsync when installing other stuff then it is likely TimeCopy causing it and not just my particular situation.

I seen backupman 1.45 listed as medium. Any chance we can get a link or something to get that version? I'd like to try it out. I need to backup my T5 before I send it back to exchange for a non-marred screen.
Of course if there is an alternative way to make sure everything is back on the new one so that its as if I never had exchanged that will be fine too.

Hello All,
Some of you have followed my notes concerning problems with ePocrates and aVantgo on my T5.
It has been two weeks without my Palm and without ePocrates (I used it almost daily in my surgical practice) but I finally got my new T5 from PDA Verticles (pdaMD) today. Epocrates setup went well without any abnormal resets and I was able to install ePocrates Essentials without resets or hotsync errors. This was not the case with the prior T5 and I am hoping that there will be no problem. I experienced errors and resets with it so frequently it was really a pain to use. Apparently Palm occasionally poops out a lemon.
I certainly do appreciate all of the help I got from the folks at ePocrates. I will update my notes on various bulletin boards if the installation remains stable for at least a week. I will also install and update my comments on other software including aVantgo on this site.
I am not sure about this, but I have an idea that PDA Verticles would not have replaced my T5 without the intervention of ePocrates support. Their return policy states that they will only take back devices in the unopened box. They only contacted me after intervention by the ePocrates staff. I therefore would have concern about purchasing devices from them in the future. I would especially like to compliment Mr. Jose Frias at ePocrates support for his concern and his assistance in this matter. :)
Incidently, kudos to our forum administrator. This is a very helpful site for those of us who struggle to keep up with our hardware.

Bummer, my problems with 6410 errors and crashes reoccurred on the new T5.
The HanDBase support people suggested I try a "warm reset" and it seems to have worked. Certainly the best result from any one thing I've tried with this monster. If you are getting frequent resets and hotsync errors try the following:
Warm Reset - Key to Troubleshooting your Palm
Let's face it, bad things can happen to your Palm. Maybe you installed a beta program that crashes every time you use it. Or, you tried syncing your old data to a new device. Before giving up hope and doing a hard reset, learn how to do a warm reset.
One item I've noticed from watching Palm users is they believe there are only two ways to reset their device. The first is to do a soft reset and the second is to do a hard reset. Often, your problems are fixed doing the soft reset. But, there is another type of reset that can be done — a warm reset.
A warm reset is similar to rebooting your PC in safe mode. In the case of Palm, various hacks, patches, alarms and so on are not loaded. As with other resets, you'll see the splash screen and preferences screen. The advantage a warm reset offers is data retention. You can also further troubleshoot the device.
When troubleshooting a problem, the best action is to always start with a soft reset. If the soft reset doesn't work, it can mean an application is misbehaving. Often times, it is a program you recently installed or a program that's become corrupted. Another scenario might be if you are syncing your old programs to a new device. This is especially true if you're changing from one Palm OS manufacturer to another or if communication programs are involved.
Once you've done a warm reset, you can start finding the problem application so you can remove it. Sometimes, identifying the problem is easy as the device always crashes when you access the same program. Other times, it's more difficult and you might want to try a tool such as ResetEMU to find the offending program.
To perform a warm reset,
1. Press and hold the Page Up button on your handheld.
2. Using the reset tip tool (paper clip, earring post etc), gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.
3. When the Palm Computing Platform logo appears on the screen, release the Page Up button.
http://www.timeatlas.com/mos/PDAs/Palm_OS/Warm_Reset_-_Key_to_Troubleshooting_your_Palm/
After one warm reset I was able to hotsync but had resets opening ePocrates and HanDbase. Also it apparently uninstalled my Bluetooth software but this corrected itself on the next couple of hotsyncs. Several more syncs without problems. I will keep my fingers crossed.
