Does anyone know if DA Launcher (the latest beta) works OK with the T5. It seems to be more stable with it turned off but I am not sure.

I have not tested it yet but I am considering it. I think there are a few DAs I seen I might want to use. I assume that the DA will need to be compatable with the T5 also.

LlamaGraphics have released a new public beta of LifeBalance for T5 and Treo 650 users.

According to the release notes:
Shared selection between the Outline, To Do List, and Balance views. If the selected task is visible in the other view when you switch views, Life Balance will automatically select and scroll to that task in the other view.
Native Calendar support on the Tungsten E, T3, T5 and Treo 650. This speeds up calendar operations, makes Life Balance launch and exit more quickly on the T5 and Treo 650, and may fix some HotSync timeouts for customers with large amounts of Calendar data on these devices.

I have tested both features without problem. The difference in speed is dramatic with launch & exit times reducing from anywhere from 10-30 seconds to about 1 second.

Rating: Medium. (NB: may upgrade to "High" after further testing)

Lance, please note direct downloand link rather than need to request a patch.

Tim

Can someone test this one further. I suspect it as the cause of errors after every hotsync. I did a hard reset on my device and left it off this time and didn't get any errors needing a softreset after each hotsync like before.

I also did a hard reset a couple of weeks ago to get rid of old "trash" files and since then have had no problems with Hotsync. Time Copy went back on to my T5 relatively early and I have had no issues. Given my experience, I doubt that TimeCopy was the source of your errors.

BTW, it's a great app. It's kind of comforting to know that my T5 only loses less than a second a week.

The HanDBase support people suggested I try a "warm reset" and it seems to have worked. Certainly the best result from any one thing I've tried with this monster.

Are things still working OK? I'm also a doc that uses ePocrates and HanDBase a lot. I have ePocrates loaded and it seems fine so far, but I haven't tried HanDBase yet.

Healthetech has released a patch for their Balancelog program for the T3-T5. Program works fine except the scroll bars on the right - the graphic scroll bar doesn't move like it should. The rest of the program works great. Balancelog is a diet/exercise logger. So I'd say medium rating

I just installed DA Launcher 5.1b4 and it appears to be working fine so far on my T5. I'm also testing system analyzer DA.

Interesting this is I have seen so few DAs I don't find it that useful yet. Any good DAs out there?

Add SkinT3! to the list. Refuses to change the DIA.

Try the latest version, renamed SkinDIA!(v1.33). It works fabulously!

I have found however that SprayPaint and Butterfly don't work: SP is OK in the operating sysem but doesn't actully DO anything; Butterfly is OK in Uninstaller's Sandbox, and will change the colors the first time it's run but causes a complete crash with the next reset, to the point where I (at least in my current state of programming ignorance - which I have to admit is less than before I started working with this device!) had to do a hard reset to get the T5 to work again. I'm sorry I don't have the version numbers - I deleted them off my computer pretty fast - but they were the latest versions (from the developers websites - see I am learning) as of Feb 10 2005.

Documents To Go 7.002 -- I see now that others have had similar problems with 7.002, and that apparently 7.003 is recommended for T5 users. Here's how I found out:

I had not used Documents To Go for actually typing up a new document. Then recently in a hotel room I created a new document using my Palm Universal Wireless (Ir) Keyboard. First, when I tried to open an existing document. I got this crash, logged by Crash:
"Crash was caused by DocsToGo_enUS, with error FileRegistry.c, Line:1057, Missing large icon"
Then on the second attempt to save the new document I had created, I got this, and lost everything I had typed:
"Crash was caused by WordView+ 7.002, with error Fatal Exception"
There was a suggestion on the forums that version 7.003 was recommended for T5 users. I downloaded DTG Pro 7.003 and installed it. But before trying out DTG again, I upgraded from DTG Pro 7.002 to DTG Premium 7.003 and installed that. Then I recreated the sequence of events and had no problem. I have not extensively trialled version 7.003.

Hopefully DTG is stable now. That was a nasty loss.

Woops, the following was originally posted under the wrong thread.

Lance,

TealMaster v. 2.35 has recently been released by TealPoint and works flawlessly with the T5.

TealTools v. 1.22 also seems to work flawlessly on the T5 in conjunction with TealMaster.

I would give them both a HIGH rating for compatibility with the T5.

Is anyone able to confirm whether the above work on the T5 or could some kind soul with a T5 run a test for me. I use these daily and would probably not buy a T5 rather than do without them.

Language Teacher is a two way dictionary and and trial versions can be had at ww.ectaco.com.

FX Pilot is an excellent currency converter that updates daily via the web when you hotsync. This can be had at www.oanda.com, I'll attempt to paste in the link because otherwise the download for the palm software can be hard to find: http://www.oanda.com/products/fxpilot/fxpilotintro.shtml

Many thanks

Hello,

I've had my second T5 now for a couple of months and most of the software I am running has been on either the first or the second T5 since early December. In my previous posts I submitted some results but I think I can make a final determination on some of these programs. My first T5 was plagued with constant resets and hotsync errors. It would not run ePocrates and Avantgo after the initial installs and sometimes would simply refuse to boot without a reset. Finally, the ePocrates support people convinced the pdaMD people that they should replace my defective T5 and I've had much better luck since.

AvantGo V5.7 build 35 from www.avantgo.com high

DateDiff 3.1 http://www.freewarepalm.com/clock/datediff.shtml high

BTPrint Professional Version 1.5 http://www.iscomplete.org high

Documents To Go Premium Edition English Version 7.003 high

HanDBase Professional www.ddhsoftware.com Version3.0k build 4 I would rate high but the beta results in hotsync errors.

MemoPLUS Version 4.18 www.handshigh.com high

iSilo Version 4.15 www.isilo.com high and I am using many compatible iSilo reader databases including: Clinical Orthopaedics 2005, Clinical Rheumatology & Pain 2005, Trauma & Toxicology 2005, the MeisterMed Lytemeister freeware, ICDMeister 2005, & CPTMeister 2004 Version 2 and many other iSilo compatible files all without any problems. So I would rate them all high

The Audible Player V2.5 from http://www.audible.com high

Pocket Tunes V3.0.6 from http://www.pocket-tunes.com high and it saves the mp3 files to your SD card!!!

SplashPhoto 4.21 www.splashdata.com high

TealDoc Version 6.63 www.tealpoint.com high

TealPhone Version 4.15 www.tealpoint.com high

TealMover Version 1.30 www.tealpoint.com high

WordComplete Version 3.02 www.cic.com high

Jot Version 2.1 www.cic.com high. I'm not sure how I ever got along without this program. Makes graphitti entry so fluid.

eReader Professional Version 2.5.3 from http://www.palmdigitalmedia.com high

DateBk5 Version 5.4a from http://www.pimlicosoftware.com high

ePocrates V7.01 from http://www.epocrates.com now works flawlessly rate it high

Bejeweled 2 V1.1 from http://www.astraware.com sometimes refuses to run because of a lack of memory although I have 10.7 Mb free. I can correct it with a reset. Rate it medium.

GTS Racing Challenge V1.03.12 from http://www.astraware.com also has some memory problems and a soft reset is sometimes necessary to get it to run. Still worth a medium

BackupBuddyVFS V3.07 from http://www.bluenomad.com has issues with palm Garnet but is still useable. It doesn't want to backup my HanDBase databases but backs up everything else. They say they are working on it. I'd rate it a medium

Davis Drug Guide V2.1 Build 2.30.34 from http://www.unboundmedicine.com is high

Lexi Infectious Disease using the Lexi-Comp Reader V2.3.050222 from http://www.lexi.com high

Crash Pro V2.15 from http://www.79bmedia.com high. Makes those occasional soft resets more liveable.

I have removed TealLock Version 5.30 www.tealpoint.com. It isolates itself as causing consistant hotsync 5.0P errors.

ToDo Plus Version 3.61 www.handshigh.com. There is an annoying problem in that the program freezes and a reset is required if you try to delete a task. Of course it can be gotten around by deleting tasks using Datebk. They say it is a palmone problem and they are waiting on a patch. I'd have to rate it medium.

I removed the Adobe Reader for Palm OS Version 3.05 www.adobe.com on my first T5 and I have not reinstalled it due to lack of a percieved need for it. It caused resets on my first T5.

I cannot run Dose A Day www.dataviz.com Version 1.002 on either T5. I get both hotsync errors and the program fails to save the preferences. The support person responded by telling me there couldn't be a problem as it had be "extensively tested." It wasn't worth the hassle.

Addit wouldn't hotsync on my first T5 but now runs without a problem.

My T5 still has a (very) occasional Hotsync 5.0P error. I'm pretty sure this relates to the 5.0P security software that comes on the palm. I contacted palm support about it twice and was told it was a "3rd party program" so not a palmone issue. You betcha.

That's about it on my T5. I'd just like to say that this forum has been a great help to me and I'd like to thank the moderator(s). :)

have one question,
somebody did restore of T5 after hard reset using Tealbackup?

i have 1.11beta installed and it backups without problems, but i never tried to restore. kinda scared because all other software i used - dont restore T5 properly.

so someone used Tealbackup to restore T5?

StoneRyno

I personally have been afraid to try any backup software on mine. I tried backupman and backup buddy both generated endless errors. I couldn't even get them to backup properly. One time backupman got to 100% on the progress indicator and then I got an error message so I thought it backed it up. But when I went to restore from the backup on the replacement T5 I got I ended up having to hard reset and install from scratch because I got endless errors from hotsyncs and even just using it would cause error messages. I haven't tried any new software on it yet. But all the stuff I used on my T E works fine so far.

If we could see some testimony on here of how teal backup worked both backing up and restoring I know I would appreciate it too. I don't see backupman working any time soon. i was told they can't do anything until PalmOne fixes the problem that is causing their problems. I don't know if this is the same for backup buddy. I just didn't like that one as much cause if i wanted to keep more than one backup it required me to take manual steps. How does teal backup compare?

@StoneRyno:did you try to start the restore run a second time?
I am using Backup Buddy (Version 3.07) on my T5 and did 5 successfull full restores after a hard reset with this Program; it generates one error message / one soft reset at the beginning of the restore (after the screen message telling there was no hotsync and clicking the username); i am using the basic mode; sometimes there is an error necessitating a soft reset in the middle of the restore run; error messages about "cannot restore the file ...." i quit with "ignore errors"; after a maximum two runs the restore completes; the Internal is copied back from a Backup on the SD Card with the T5 file manager, after about 10 minutes it is all done.
Interestingly even V 3.07 however needs at least 3 restarts when generating a new backup after a checkpoint, the following "updates" are very fast and usually w/o problem. So for me BBVFS 3.07 does not work without hickups, but at least i know i can restore successfully after a hard reset.

(BTW the last CardBackup Beta did backup w/o problems, but restore did not work at all on my T5, so deleted it for now from my palm; with the BackupMan Beta i got fatal errors right at the start of the Backup)

@StoneRyno:did you try to start the restore run a second time?

It wasn't the restore that gave errors. It restored from the backup fine. It was the endless errors encountered after restoring the device that drove me to hard reset and start from scratch. I assumed that files in the backup were corrupted due to improperly being backed up due to the problems with backup software and the T5. I just gave up even trying to use backup software because I was having to soft reset my device every single time I tried.

In the future if the bugs are worked out i might start using one again but since the T5 doesn't loose its storage when battery dies it doesn't seem as important. I had that happen once on my T E which drove me to use backup software just in case it happened again and it turned out I did end up restoring my device one time when I did something to mess up the device.

Spaceward Ho 1.0.4 seems to work fine on the T5. (Low usage)
Tube 3.24 works fine but hotsyncing takes a while (talking about 15-30 seconds longer than other applications, not minutes/hours, but definitely noticeable)
Scrabble 1.2 (handmark) works great.
Monopoly 1.2.1 (handmark) works great

Please confirm:
Card Export 2.16 worked fine until right now. I went to check the version number (load the application, then click About in the menu) and T5 crashes. Can anyone replicate this?

As usual the T5 gives confusing results.....

I just tried BBVFS3.07 again on my T5. When I first reinstalled it in January it would not backup all my files. Specifically it wouldn't backup HanDBase databases important to me in my surgical practice. Memory errors. The support person told me all the other files not giving errors were backed up and I did check in the restore list and it seemed so. After reading the last several posts I thought I would run it again just for fun.

Works perfectly in backup and clearing orphan files. I will wait until it's necessary to see how the restore works.

No explanations. That's the way it goes. I guess I would still rate it medium until I've run the backup a few more times and done a restore.

MediaMan v1.0.4 (final version from what I am told)
When I go to delete a title from one of my catalogs without checking the box for save archive copy I get a fatal Alert:

VFSDBCache.c, line:6761,
DeleteRecords() called on invalid
record

(Reset)

When checking the box I don't encounter an error. Anyone else experiencing this? And/or know the difference between save archive copy or not saving?

According to bitsnbolts backupman v1.52 (it appears they have this out of beta now) that palmOne has to fix a problem with the T5 before backupman will work bug free. This is unfortunate. I don't see palmOne fixing this since according to their site see this link for details:

http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,case=obj(34247)

here is an excerpt:

What should I do?

... it may be due to third-party software that doesn't know how to work with our new file system. Third-party developers are working diligently to update their software, but these fixes may take some time. Click here for advice and troubleshooting.

This tells me that palmOne is pawning off responsibility for their problems to software developers.

Anyone have any information to the contrary? Will we see a solution to backup problems aside from palmOne's backup card(s)?

I have read that Tealpoint Softwares' 'TealBackup' is supposed to work on the T5 now : here's a link to their web page -

See my post a few back. We have a problem of pointing fingers. bitsnbolts (and I assume other backup software makers) say palm is at fault and has a bug that needs to be fixed. And palm says its the fault of the 3rd party software and they need to fix it to make it work.

Lance,

Great job on maintaining the list.
I've been using the above that I originally posted about for a couple of weeks now without hiccups and so could be moved to the green light list as a medium.

The Oanda FX Pilot program is still the same one (v.1) as before without upgrades.

Having installed the Ectaco dictionary some of the necessary international characters that appeared on the in program keyboard (not the Palm keyboard) were lost. Downloading the latest trial version of the program from www.ectaco.com cured this - and better my old registration was recognised so a free upgrade! The program (v. 3.2.90) now appears to be called LingvoSoft Dictionary (www.lingvosoft.com) but is essentially the same as the old with the addition of some new copy & paste icons.

Neither support full screen.

The same one which gives the "out of memory" errors with third party backup software. The "out of memory" errors when browsing with Blazer. The "out of memory" error giving rise to Versamail complaining there isn't enough memory to sort the mail.....
