View Full Version : why sony may have left the camera???

.... after the release of the vz90 i wondered why sony took the camera out.

now i get it - since sony's clie is now only japan, and here in japan most cellphones (some are sony-branded ones) are now equipped with at least 2 megapixel auto-focus cameras (also with MP4 video recording functionality), they may have decided to just skip it - no need to have TWO devices that do the same thing...

Actually most mobiles in Japan are still 0.3MP (but still as same as most cameras in CLIE, except 2MP in NZ90), only new models are 2MP or above. And still some models haven't camera.

BTW, I'm using Sony-Ericsson w/ 1.3MP only.

I agree with you that there is no such needs for having 0.3MP camera in CLIE when mobiles can do the same thing.

yeah... and since the clie would now only be for the japanese market - we may never see a camera-equipped, CF-slot included, etc. etc. clie anymore...

i would really like the clie's camera - it allows me to take pictures of whiteboards (brainstorming sessions, etc.), and send it to all the members...

or maybe, could it be of japan's new regulation regarding cellphones - that they should be sound-equipped (due to the recent use for "peeping")... and since the clie's sound could be muted, why not remove the camera altogether? or maybe not, since the new iPAQ in japan is also camera-equipped... or why dont they just have the camera non-mutable...

I personally like having the idea of having a camera on my PDA, but more importantly I like having my PDA and my cell phone seperately. I like my PDA to feel like a PDA, to be comfortable in my hands to use when reading, and enting in information. I also like my mobile phone to feel more like a traditional mobile phone should and fit into my hand nicely. So... I have PDA with out a camera that usues bluetooth to connect to my phone and bring in the pictures I have taken from my phone as well as getting to the internet.

camera in Palm is good for webcam. expecly the NR, NX and UX series.
