You know.. I wonder if the memory slot is a true MS Pro reader slot, or if Sony is just releasing drivers for the unit... I heard the new MS Pro is supposed to be faster in transfering data, but will the slot take advantage of that, or just of "bigger" cards?

I'm pretty sure your suspicions are correct. I doubt the NZ is capable of taking full advantage of the new cards performance. I know that my 717 digital camera will see a slight speed increase when reading, writing or dumping to my laptop but it will get nowhere near to using the cards full potential. I think the NZ will be the same. As I understand it Sony have yet to release any product that is completely compatible with the PRO.

Saying that I'll still be running off to Sakuraya next week to pick up the 256m version...

Lucky you live Japan. I liked it when I visited it for 6 days for my friends wedding.

Airth ...

I know the Japanese NZ-90 can read those EDY card things ... the prepaid cards that you use for transport etc. Do you know anything about this?

We have a similar card in Hong Kong, also made by Sony ... same technology, different name ...

... I was wondering HOW they detect the current value etc?

Just wondering if u knew ...

Thanks.

I did some reading on PDAGEEK about it : http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2003Jan/wbp20030110018101.htm

Also: http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/3219

From what I'm hearing is they will release the drivers for NZ units to be 'compatible' with those MS. The WRITES to the MS are designed to be between 1.5mb/sec and 20mb/sec.

I've been very pleased with the speed of the MS thus far in my NZ. Even if they are the same 'speed' ... that won't bother me too much. if they could add about 10% faster speed for writes (like taking 1600x1200 pics) with the CAM... that would be great. I do run a bunch of database applications on my PDA, and the databases load super-fast from the MS as it is. A little better throughput is better than none as far as I'm concerned. I'm not unhappy with the speed in which the MS currently operate in.

The way I read this update:

http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/bin/support/support.cgi?whichone=1&installfile=mgmsptch.txt&downloadfile=MGMSPTCH.PRC&loc=2

it fixes some audioplayer issues and updates the system software for the new MS's. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Have you guys seen the SRP on the 1 gig MS Pro? 800+ bucks! It's like buying another NZ90!

I think i'll be sticking with the older format ones for a year or so until the price comes down toa more reasonable level. I don't even think CF 1 gig units are 800 bucks are they?

I think i'll see ifi can get one of those 128x2 Memory Sticks.
