Help, My UX-50 was working fine until today. I can't turn it on. No power. No light when I set it on charger. I've tried soft and hard resets - nothing. I do have an EB-40 and it charges fine so there is nothing wrong with the charger.
Any ideas or thoughts on what to do before sending it to Sony would be greatly appreciated since I am not under warranty. Has anyone else had this happen? What did you do?
Could the internal battery have gone dead? It was working and charging fine just prior to this complete power outage.
Thanks for any input in advance.

I believe you have to manually disconnect the battery or wait for the battery to totally drain by itself. Then try charging it again. Here are some helpful links:

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That's why this forum is the best.
I did a search but I guess I searched the wrong term because I found nothing that helped.
The recs in the link worked like a charm once I found a screwdriver to remove those little screws. Other posts are right - a small flathead works well.
SO glad to have my UX50 back with the living. :D

This is one of my dreaded nightmares of having a UX50. I have read a lot of problems with this kind of solution. Luckily, it has not occured yet on mine. Since the solution is at hand, I would rather do it myself than send it to Sony for the same repair. I trust myself better in handling my handheld in simple stuff such as this. At least we know that once the battery dies. We can easily change it without a hitch.
Glad you got yours working khad_o.

haha.. haven't gotten it to work just yet :D. sorry if i wasn't making myself clear cktlmd, i was being sarcastic. i too never thought i would see the day when my UX won't switch on!. i was hopeful i'll never encounter this problem. oh well. but i know there's a thread somewhere that discusses this issue so i wasn't that worried. i know i'll get it fixed with the help of the threads and the help of the cool members of 1src:D.
cheers

The same thing happened to me on vacation in Europe a few weeks back, what I did, I placed the UX on the extended battery, it came back to life, and charged both batteries, after like 30minutes I was back in play, without having to open the unit, don't know whether it was the same problem, if you have the extended battery, try this route before opening :D

I also had the same problem, was listening to music and it just kinda...froze...on me. I let the battery die, and tried to charge it. No light. Then disconnected the battery, put everything back together and placed it on the charger and...No charge light :<.
Before I consign myself to a Sony repair bill, does anybody else have any Ideas?
